Players abroad: Mwepu plays in defense, Action for Daka, Banda, Sunzu and Sakala

Zambian players abroad were in action in midweek in both Cup games and League games. Enock Mwepu put in a full shift in a defensive role helping Salzburg to win and keep a clean sheet.

In Austria, Midfielder Enock Mwepu put a full shift for Redbull Salzburg in an unfamiliar right back position accounting well for himself. Striker Patson Daka replaced Ray Yabo just after 34 minutes and both helped Redbull Salzburg to a one nil win in the UNIQAÖFBCup over SC Austria Lustenau.

Japanese Striker Takumi Minamino scored the lone goal in the 74th minute.

Elsewhere, Striker Brian Mwila played the last 21 minutes for his Austrian Bundesliga club SC Rheindorf Altach who suffered a huge three nil defeat at the hands of LASK Linz.

In Armenia, Lubambo Musonda and his Gandzasar Kapan team mates suffered a two nil defeat at the hands of Shirak. They have now gone four games without a victory.

In Belgium, Fashion Sakala played the full ninety minutes for KV Oostende  in their 4 nil defeat to Club Brugge. Midfielder Emmanuel Banda came from the bench to play the last 27 minutes

In France, Defender Stophila Sunzu put in a full ninety minute shift for FC Metz who were handed a 2-1 defeat in the Coupe de la Ligue by Amiens SC.

In Sweden, Zambia U20 national team striker Edward Chilufya was an unused substitute for Djurgården who managed a two nil win over IFK Göteborg in the Swedish Allsvenskan league.

In Russia, Former Nkana striker Evans Kangwa was an unused substitute for Arsenal Tula who managed a two nil win over Akhmat Grozny in the Russian Cup.

  1. Its good the boys are having game time though suffered defeat. We all expect the coach to add value to the team by calling brian mwila, malama, kabwe, gampami jones lungu and banda. They will bring in competion. Our bench looks very weak.

  2. I think its good for Mwepu to have game time rather than say he can only play as a Midfielder. Victor Moses for Chelsea has done very well especially last two seasons as a Right Wing Back. But for Nigeria he was equally menacing as Front Winger.
Conte used Moses well at the back. In Modern soccer you adapt. Valencia of Man United same story….
