Player Rater I Zambia 0-1 Nigeria- Sekanji, Kalyati impress

Below is how the ZamFoot Crew rated the boys

  1. Shadreck ‘Soup’ Kalyati -8- Three good saves in the first half plus a penalty save for the NRDC based Football Chance FC goalkeeper.

He simply impressed in goal.

In 2018, there were concerns about his height but he has had growth spurt since then.

Currently on loan at Chainda Bombers.

  1. Aaron Simpasa – 6.8 – Good shift from the Kafue Celtic midfielder at right back.

At some point, the coach should have moved him further up the pitch.

His energy levels and trickery could have impacted the game.

  1. Lweendo Chimuka – 6.2 – The right footed defender started as a left back.

He was withdrawn after the coach made changes.

Maybe the Atletico Lusaka youngster should have been switched to right back to allow Simpasa to move forward as a winger or no.10.

  1. David Hamansenya – 7 – The Shamuel defender rarely put a foot wrong.

When the coach made the defensive changes, maybe he should have drifted to left back.

But maybe the coach didn’t want to break his partnership with Sekanji Siame.

  1. Sekanji Siame – 8.2 – He was calm and composed at the back. Gave the team the platform to build attacks.

The Sporting Lusaka defender led by example.

He is currently on loan at promotion chasing Konkola Blades FC.

  1. Aaron Mbemba Phiri – 6.3 – Not his best game but the captain remains one of the pillars of the team.

Find a holding midfielder in the team, pair the Kafue Celtic boy with Sekanji in central defence and move Hamasenya to play as flat left back.

  1. Emmanuel Mwanza -7- Hit the cross bar in the first half.

The Kafue Celtic boy should have kept and protected the ball more. For the Junior Chipolopolo to progress, Eto’o, will have a major say.

He is a key member of the team.

  1. Samson Malaya – 6.2 – The Atletico Lusaka playmaker didn’t explode against the West Africans.

On his day, he is someone who can find spaces between the lines.

  1. Marcel Zimba – 6.8- The bulldozer tried his best to lead the line but run out of team in the second half.

He remains one of Zambia’s keyman at the tournament.

  1. Joseph Liteta – 7.1- He was a shadow on himself in the first half.

The Atletico Lusaka playmaker almost found an equaliser with 25 yard shot.

He showed glimpses of what he can do. He is someone to keep an eye on as the tournament progresses.

  1. Jonathan Kalimina – 6.3 – Couldn’t replicate the hatrick against Senegal in a pre-tournament friendly.

The Kafue Celtic youngster was withdrawn.

Was pushed further up to the left back position he plays at his club.

Subs

Charles Kampamba – 6.4 – Replaced Lweendo at left back and the Kitwe based centre centre back did well as a flat full back.

His older brother is Nkana legend Sate Sate.

Stanley Nyamikwe – 6.2- Replaced Kalimina at left winger.

He almost scored but saw his shot blocked by the goalkeeper.

The left footed winger was withdrawn for Josim Sikazwe. The Pataaki winger has the potential to be a top player despite the in and out.

Obvious Mwaliteta – 6.5 – He replaced Malaya and worked hard for the team.

His interceptions and tackles won plaudits. He had good moments at both ends.

Could have had an assist after he played Nyamikwe through.

On the end, he recovered well to thwart a Nigerian attack after he gave the ball away.

Linekar Mbesuma – 6.4 – The Jomo Cosmos youngster received a fair share of tackles from the Nigerians.

He is one for the future.

He replaced Mwanza.

Josim Sikazwe- 6.2- Nothing much from the boy from the player dubbed ‘Messi.’
