Zambian striker Patson Daka on Saturday evening won his first silverware in England as Leicester City edged defending Champions, Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley Stadium to lift their second FA Community Shield.
The Chipolopolo forward came from the bench to replace Jamie Vardy in the 70th minute and put in a very good shift for the Foxes.
Leicester City has numerous chances in the first half with Jamie Vardy, Harvey Barnes, and Ayoze Pérez coming close to opening the scores.
On the other end, captain Kasper Schmeichel had to make some fine saves with former Fox Riyad Mahrez causing the most trouble for Brendan Rodgers’ defense.
Rodgers made four changes in the 71st minutes as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Boubakary Soumaré, Marc Albrighton, and Patson Daka were all introduced, with Maddison, Tielemans, Pérez, and Vardy the men to come off. Luke Thomas and Kelechi Iheanacho came on soon after as Daka and the senior man partnered upfront.
In the final 10 minutes, Daka came close to opening his competitive account as he was only just beaten to the ball by the onrushing Steffen, who denied him a winner at Wembley.
Nathan Aké however made a blunder 3 minutes to time as he took too long to clear the ball and ended up tripping Iheanacho in the box and Rodgers’ side was awarded a penalty, The former Manchester City man stepped up and scored to put the Foxes in the lead against his former employers.
