2012 AFCON winning goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene says it’s an honor to represent the country and he believes integrating won’t be a problem despite having new faces in the team.
Mweene was recalled to the senior national team after missing out in the last two years or so. Mweene says the tournament is very special and important because they are the defending champions and the team has to show just that.
“it’s good to be back and it’s always an honor to play for my country,” he said.
“Being a goalkeeper is not easy, you need to sacrifice a lot and some of us can not just leave, leaving no one to take over, we just have to groom 2 or 3keepers because at the end of the day it’s not about Kennedy but the country.”
Mweene went on to explain that there is no easy game, hence the team must work hard, stay focused and win their opening game.
“We are the defending champions, but a win won’t come easy we just have to concentrate and do our job,” The Mamelodi Sundowns shot-stopper said.
Mweene acknowledges the respect given to him by fans, and he believes he’s been called for national duty for a reason.
“We must not take advantage of what we have done in the past for the national team, we appreciate the respect we get from fans,” he said.
Zambia will square off with Lesotho in a lunchtime kickoff at the Wilson Wolfson Stadium behind closed doors. The match will however be live on SuperSport’s PSL channel (202) and Variety4 Africa (209) and also on the COSAFA website.

Man we just got an idiot in a coach stupid as hell…cyril chibwe signs for baroka is sa league better than our chipande chipande local league and he is dropped now we lose to Lesotho with an old mweene no defense system we got players like shemmy mayembe and Frankie musonda who it seems like they will never be called zambia has got a good team just the wrong selection and system..

As long micho is around zambia we never qualify to any major tournament .qualifyiing to the world cup it will be a miracle. It seems king kalu gone with everything.
Btw let this over overconfident micho know kabaso is not a centre back he will cost you games start watching from the 5-0 to algeria to this game we don’t have qualifications but we have this little understanding and Zachariah chilongshi runs like a headless chicken up and down with know defensive sense on left back and no crossing ability check all the highlights from the time he started playing use prosper in left back and kabaso on right back check game against Brazil whr he ws used on right back neymar had difficulty moving
