Mbesuma: They Have To Break My Record!

The winner of the PSL’s September/October Player of the Month award, Collins Mbesuma, insists that it is his colleagues that have a point to prove, not him.

Mbesuma, now 31, already has five league goals to his name so far this season, and was handed the award for his impressive form over the last two months.

The Zambian’s record of bagging 25 league goals in a single season for Kaizer Chiefs back in 2005/06 remains a record for the Absa Premiership, and his tally of 35 in all competitions from the same year is also unmatched.

Now, having seemingly regained his form under Muhsin Ertugral, Mbesuma has spoken highly of the Turkish head coach, saying that they understand each other.

Speaking to the media this week, the forward said, “He understands me very well, and I understand him. We worked together before at Arrows and he’s a good coach. If we follow his instructions I think we can go far.

Also, when asked whether he still had anything to prove in South Africa, the striker laughed and replied, “Not at all, the ones who have to compete with me are the ones who have to break my record!”
Mbesuma grabbed six goals in 29 league games last season and already has five in nine this year, and Ertugral will know that his striker’s form will be key if they are to achieve the top four finish that they are aiming for.

  1. Congrats ba David, those who follow psl will knw dat Aces is a big team but due to bad coaches n administration problems(in the past) they kinda look like an average team..together with amazulu n wits r oldest teams and they now have a great coach who believes in youngsters n already have a good youth academy exchange programme with Man city n patrick viera..so the future of the team looks good, would really recommend this team to some of our local players..

  2. The best in form striker we have alongside Kalengo and Jacob but Jacob has issues with his ego.

Mbesuma will remain a reference point for many years to come in our game and those youngsters trying to make it in football shouldn’t look far for inspiration.

He is the true epitome of Discipline, dedication to duty at both club and national level and Focused to pursue what he loves most. Go Mbesuma go!

  3. What I love most about Mbesuma is his commitment to the Zambia national soccer team everytime he is called up to the team.Everyone remembers at AFCON how he came in as a substitute and was later substituted in the game against Libya (similar to Matic substitution by Mou) but has never shuned National team call ups even after such embarrasing moments.Infact he came back with a bang and scored a cracker of a goal against SA in the Mandela challenge.Big ups King David you are a real Zambian son

  4. @gb This Turkish Coach is good but does not take shit. The way FAZ runs its affairs this guy won’t last in his job. He speaks his mind out. No brakes. FAZ can’t work with such a man. They want a guy who they can “control”
