Zambian forward Collins Mbesuma has suffered relegation with his Highlands Park team on the final day of the South African Absa Premiership with Kennedy Mweene’s Sundowns settling for second position.
Highlands had a chance to avoid automatic relegation if they won their final game and other results went their but the odds were against them facing the African champions Mamelodi Sundowns.
They however fought from a 2 – 0 deficit to draw the game 2 – 2.
Both Mbesuma and Mweene did not make the final day squads.
Mbesuma who was top scorer in the league last season was signed by he newly promoted club but he failed to replicate his form as he had an injury plagued season.
The South African league record goal scorer only made 11 appearances scoring 4 times.
It remains to be seen where he next stop will be.
Mweene however will walk away with a runners-up medal as Sundowns finished 3 points behind winners Bidvest Wits.
The 32 year old made only seven appearances in the league bettering the four he made last season.
The Chipolopolo number one and his Sundowns team will again hardly get any break as they continue in the CAF Champions League.
Elsewhere in the South African league, Aubrey Funga and Rodrick Kabwe were not in action when Ajax Capetown were beaten by Baroka 1 – 0 at home.
Kabwe made 14 appearances scoring two goals while Funga only managed 4 appearances.
The loss sees Ajax finished the league in 10th position.
Salulani Pgiri who has had an outstanding season in the Polokwane City midfield helped his team finish in 6th position.
He played 65 minutes in today’s 4 – 2 win over Capetown City.
This marked his 12th appearance for the club he joined mid-season.
Davies Nkausu was an unused substitute on the closing day when Free State Stars managed a draw which saw them just avoid the relegation play off on goal difference.
The 2012 Africa Cup of Nations winners made 12 appearances this season.
Lewis Macha again was not named on the bench as Kaizer Chiefs beat champions Bidvest Wits to finish fourth.
The 25 year old striker has made only four appearances in the league and he did not even make the team sheet for anu game this calendar year.
He is reported to be on his way out of the club.
South Africa is killing Zambian football. Players are not playing, they get comfortable…(Clifford Mulenga)…I hope player take note.
Things don’t seem to happen for our players in south African PSL I think they should try some where else like the israel league amenian league etc.davies nkausu is better than some of those defenders are free state stars but he is always on the bench WHY only the south Africans knows the reasons
PSL has become a terrible place for Zambian players. It seems like 2012 AFCON had a detrimental effect on Zambian talent in SA. The season that corresponded with AFCON 2012 had quite an amount of top shelf performers in SA, Mweene, Nkausu, and Isaac Chansa. Even back when we produced Mbesuma the record goal scorer, Chris Katongo, even Chamanga. What has happened?
Ur right undefeated guru, I think dey shd rily try else wher, poor rodrick living zanaco 4 ajax cape town all becoz of money, coz wen we compare da two, zanaco ar playin in da caf champions league whilst his ajaz team dint even finish in da top half of da SA league
South African knows very well that if they let these players(Mbesuma ,Nkausu,Mweene and others) to be on top form, there digging their own grave. they know us better than any African team. We’re the Champion we’re CHIPOLOPOLO. Its like South African is our training ground. So they can’t let our boys do the training . Boy weak up don’t go there, not good for you.
