MTN Super League side ZESCO United and George Chilufya are close to reaching an agreement for ‘Chonto’ to take over as head coach, the ZamFoot Crew understands.
Zega Mambo turned to Chilufya after talks with George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina stalled following an initial verbal agreement for the former Mufulira Wanderers defender to make a return to Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Chilufya and ZESCO United are very close to sealing a deal that will see him take over the managerial role at ZESCO United, the ZamFoot Crew has learned.
ZESCO United are looking for a fresh start after a disappointing 2025/2026 campaign that saw them miss out on the ABSA Cup and finish in the bottom half of the table.
Under Chilufya, Kabwe Warriors finished fourth on the log and looked like contenders for continental football.
The ZamFoot Crew also understands that former Chipolopolo striker Nchimunya Mweetwa is being earmarked for a coaching role at Zesco United.
Mweetwa who holds a CAF B license could also be a possible replacement for Chilufya in Kabwe should the ZESCO United move materialize.
