Malaria grounds Rodrick Kabwe

Chipolopolo defender Rodrick Kabwe has been taken ill with malaria in South Africa.

Chipolopolo Team doctor Joseph Kabungo confirmed from Johannesburg yesterday that Kabwe got sick on Friday night.

“He [Kabwe] played against Jomo Cosmos on Friday but he started feeling bad at night. We have put him on treatment and he is recovering,” Kabungo said.

He said there is no need to worry as the Zanaco star will recover ahead of the 2015 Equatorial Guinea Africa Cup of Nations Group B opening match against Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) next Sunday.

Kabungo also said midfielder Kondwani Mtonga is back in training after missing Friday’s friendly against Jomo Cosmos due to pain in the knee.

“Kondwani trained this morning without experiencing pain in the knee. Stopilla Sunzu equally trained and so far so good,” he said.

    • Learn to watch football, Rodrick is a good player who can play any position.I wish Mbola could be same. Utility players in current team are:
      – Kondwani
      – Chisamba
      – Rodrick
      – Mweene (Try Mweene as defensive midfielder… mukatamba bola).

  1. Maybe its one of those diagnosis from back in the day, any fever results in the response “nimvelako tu malelia”……kekekeke!!!!

Anyway on a serious note, I hope our good doctor has got this under check cause we need this boy. He was not at his best in the bafana encounter this probably explains why

  2. Malaria incubation period is around 14 days. Rodrick could have had malaria parasites in his system even before leaving Zambia. Sometimes change of place or weather conditions can trigger parasites to proliferate.

    • You could be right. Sometimes when I visit Zambia and then come back to South Africa (where I live), I sometimes feel some Malaria-ish kind of feeling. When I go to the doctor, they tell me that it’s just a fever but you do not have the Malaria Parasite or Protozoa (which causes Malaria).
