Lwandamina to be assisted by Simukonda and Chintu

The Football Association of Zambia has stated that newly appointed national team acting coach George Lwandamina will be assisted by Figton Simukonda and Chintu Kampamba as the Honour Janza reverts to the Technical Director role.

A statement from FAZ also indicated that the new national team coach will be announced in the next few weeks.

Below is the media release by FAZ Communications Manager Nkweto Tembwe;

Lwandamina assumes the job immediately and his first assignment is the Orange Africa Cup of Nations qualifier match between Zambia and Guinea Bissau, to be played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium on Saturday 13 June 2015.

The rest of the Chipolopolo technical team remains uncanged until such a time when there is a review of the present staff. Zambia Olympic Team coach Fighton Simukonda will work with Lwandamina and Chintu Kampamba during the time the U23 team is off international duty.

FAZ wishes to thank Honour Janza for the work undertaken during his time as coach of the Chipolopolo. Janza remains a vital cog in the development initiatives the Association contrinues to pursue in augmenting the development programmes that are taking our football forward and believe that his return to the Technical Department will re-energize the programmes that require his expertise and other stakeholders.

Updates on the announcement of the new head trainer will be given over the coming weeks.

Lwandamina has since been introduced to the team.

  1. Pa Zed no transparency while Ivory Coast is busy advertising the post of football National coach us is just to say that the new coach will be announced in the coming weeks,a bena Kalu ba li paya I Kanga.

  2. I am still protesting. Can faz explain why Rodgers kola who is now a star striker in Israel is being ignored. Gent in belgium is now considering recalling the Zambian striker.

  3. @ john Rodger Kola ws not sold by Kalu and his connections just like Jacob Mulenga.so its tricky.Kalusha sed u cnt mix apples en oranges. We need kalusha out,the problem is pipo in rural areas worship him so they give him votes.

  4. Honestly its not good to be firing Coaches in the middle of a week with a game at the weekend.

The choice of Lwadamina as a coach kaya? Our soccer currently is in a crisis stage,

  5. This chap is destroying football, there is pilfering of players and coaches for personal gains at FAZ,Lwandamina could have been a national team coach long before Janza but FAZ fish was still pilfering at a certain coach until todate.

  6. Lwandamina and janza are same they are all good coaches, but FAZ admin has no direction. We must look for proper FAZ president or continue to blame local coaches ,he too failed as coach.

  7. Faz’s move to announce a coach its a good decision . I quote that in some few weeks to come they will a coach . Lets wait and see how the new combination is going to work .

  8. There is no point to even try make heads or tails and sense of these decisions from Faz, god only knows what they are thinking.

But i will say that Janza over played his role as head coach. He complained about contracts when that was not really an issue and has created unwelcome issues such as these throughout. Knowing the nature of FAZ and being a local coach he should have read his appointment as coach differently than he did. This is not an ideal world or an ideal job! You were not HR, you will be used and George and Simukonda will also. That is some feedback for you Janza. I don’t know what Janza will do now, he will go back to his job as technical director? I think he should go and coach a team, leave Faz now what more do you want stay to do. What does a Faz technical director even do? Anybody know?

This has been a sad time for Zambian football. We have really good veteran players who have invaluable international experience who are getting too old, not yet for all of them. We have some bluecollar hardworking players who have experience and are in their prime and we have a host of young star players who are not ready for the big time. We have prospects but i can assure that none of these elements on their own can do the job for us internationally. What Janza failed to do and what a good foreign coach will be doing is coming here to weed out the players who can make Zambia tick. Balancing the old with the new, picking some of these players of their asses where they have been left and dusting them off. Then maybe we can have modecom of form which we can build upon.

At this moment i think we have nothing but the willingness and embers of dreams among the players themselves that keep Zambia going. It has been sad to watch us detriorate these last periods and even Janza going does not stop that, we might go even lower. It’s important to understand where we are and what is happening.

  9. Well, who is to shoulder the blame and for what?.In my other contributions to this site I had indicated the following:
1.Janza was on the right track
2.Zambia’s problem is not lack of coaches, it is failure to make use of them in a good combination ( G.Lwandamina,F.Simukonda,P.Phiri(late),K.Mumbai(late),W.Nyirenda etc
3.what is the contribution made by FAZ and the fans?

Well, the winds of change have swept across the Zambian football fraternity. This development must not be used to finger point instead it has to be used to introspect oneself. Everyone has contributed to this. The fans had long been calling for the removal of Janza. This on its own is pressure on some office bearers and politicians. One must not scratch his/her head in trying to figure out why the political voice dangled a fresh carrot to the FAZ personnel in what looked more like it is game of one condition, take it or lose it. Fans happened to be spectators whose part was to cheer as much as they could to encourage Great Kalu to jump and snatch the bait. He did succumb to your pressure and the winner is not football but politicians. What a move.
Even with this trickery used football house at least acted maturely. They still kept Janza. Let us hope the brains of football will grow into a big combination.

Don’t ask why FAZ changed the coach when Zambia is counting less than 7 days before the games begin. The answer is to do with the fresh orange vegetable and your cheers. There we go, look at yourself. What is your contribution to the development of the Zambian game? Do you have to do it the same way in future? The choice is yours. You can make or break the future of Zambian soccer. With love from beautiful Botswana.

    • Part of what I do as a fan is to show my discontent with mediocrity when it comes to performance. Everywhere in the world a coach is expected to hit the road running. It is a very demanding career. Why should we be different with our coaches?
Coaches get fired five games into a season, why, no win or lack of showing obvious direction towards improvement. If the fans just keep quiet like you are trying to say they should do, that would equate to them crying under the blanket and not openly voicing displeasure at the obvious.
Janza showed lack of direction towards development and it was in plain sight for all true loving Zambian fans to see. Why should they not voice their discontent? The timing of Janza getting fired yes raises question marks but let’s applaud that the fans played a part in getting rid of the problem of poor coaching at our beloved National team.
You ask what is it I am doing or we are doing for Zambian football? Well there is your answer, when we see poor coaching standards that are surely going to bring the value of our game down we voice our discontent to the powers that be and in this case they listened. I don’t see why you have to rope in politics, politicians are also football fans alike and they together with all the other football fans voiced their discontent, nothing political just love for the game. Don’t undermine the contribution of voicing a concern.

    • If Janza was a foreign coach he would be in the same position today, he should not feel aggrieaved. There is building for the future and there is showing something that you can build for the futire. He didn’t show it. Sorry that is the truth.

    • I was surprised that Patrick Phiri is late and I still consider him to be the best Zambian coach as of now.I do not know much about Lwandamila but I am of the view that Phiri is still better than him tactically.

  10. zambian football has a very big problem, we will always appoint our friends to the top positions kikikiki let us just wait and see Roger Kola and Jacob Mulenga are some of our best strikers

  11. i have to say i am quite disappointed with the move to replace Janza with 6 days to go before a qualifier. Firstly to all the people who contribute to this blog i say Janza was on the right track something that was only noticed by a few individuals. Zambians myself included are a bit slow in forward thinking and this is our demise both in football and other sectors of life.

i still say Janza was on the right track due to the following:
Look at the national team at the moment. When Janza took the job we had household names that were seemingly irreplaceable. Chris had made the national team personal to holder. Now in every position except maybe for Sinkala’s position we have a replacement. The replacement may not always be as good as the main player but we do not panic anymore. For Mweene we have Munyao, for Mbola we have Kapumbu, for Nkausu we have Kabaso and Malama (granted not that good but there available as replacements and have national games under their belts), for Sunzu one of Katebe or Munthali can come in, for Kalaba on either wing we have Allan Mukuka and Lubambo even Fwayo and Chisamba, for Mayuka we have Kangwa, Kampamba or Patson. Janza had created a reasonably strong team B which is something Herve never had. Herve was over relaint on the Katongo’s which is why we became unstuck at Afcon 2013 when they could not perform. The team’s playing identity was also changing, Janza was creating a team that was pressing from the front. Strikers were first line defenders and were pressing. i agree the change was a slow process but it was changing for the better. Herve could never have won away in Ethiopia whether friendly or not i can assure you. Now we are going back to experimenting when Janza had already gone though the tough learning experiences. Replay a DVD of the away game in Mozambique and tell whether that game was easy to win. We Zambians love complaining even when we have something good before us it is our national disease. We complained about bonneti, we complained about Herve and we complained about Janza. Now we bring in a new coach whether local or expatriate and he has to go and learn what Janza already knows. Talk about shooting yourselves in the foot. i know the decision was politically motivated. Janza clearly angered some people with his utterances in the media in the last few days.

    • Ngake jus look at the names you are saying Janza brought into the team. Munyao was in the fold before Janza so was Kabaso, Malama, Katebe, Munthali and Kangwa. Im not sure what you point is. The majority of the players whose names you are mentioning were already part of the National team when Janza took over, what do you mean he is the one who developed replacements when they were already there when he took over. The only two players that Janza can raise a hand and say these are my products in the national team are Allan Mukuka and Patson Daka. Everyone else was already part of the fold.

Don’t credit the coach on things he already found.

You make mention of the quality of the replacement, is that also not part and parcel of good coaching is ability to identify suitable replacements? If the coach is replacing good players with average players then the coach himself is lacking in that department not so?

I actually think Janza can be a good coach he just needs more hands on experience. He lacks practical experience and his single minded approach to game tactics was evidence of this. He should go and coach at club level now.

      • My point is we have a Team B which we never had before and this team is taking shape. HR almost never used local players and when he did he had little faith in them. Please dispute that! What games did Katebe play before Janza same goes for Lubambo by the way? the other players you have talked about where known as COSAFA of CECAFA players and not much else. Please give credit where it is due.

        • Lubambo was there before Janza. Janza found him in the Chipolopolo set up. Remember when Zambia lost to Japan 4-3 in a friendly in the USA, in which Lubambo scored from over 25 yards. Patrice Beaumelle was the then coach. Katebe was also there before Janza except that he never impressed HR and PB. So to me all these players are not new with exception of Patson Daka who is being rushed to the national team. Indeed Honor Janza has the potential to be a good coach, but as at now, Chipolopolo is too big for him. A combination of Lwandamina and Simukonda is fine as these two gents have been there and are experienced enough to carry Chipolopolo. Not that they are the best, but at least better that Janza as we enter the qualifiers. And we we wait for the new coach.

        • It was quite clear that the depth was too deep for him.He still needs a bit of practical experience at this level. The identity of the team was completely lost in his tactical naivety.Even the game against Mozambique was not won on tactics but sheer determination by senior players.

  12. KALU MUST GO – CHIPUNGU

Former Sports Minister Kenneth Chipungu says the problems facing the Football Association Of Zambia can only be resolved after Kalusha Bwalya steps aside as FAZ President.

He told Pan African Radio and monitored by Zambian Eye in an interview

Mr. Chipungu who served as Sports Minister during the MMD regime noted that football in the country is under performing due to lack of leadership in the association.

He observed that Mr. Bwalya has over stayed and run out of ideas on how to run the association adding that when he was minister he had plans of dissolving the board.

Mr. Chipungu stated that as long as Kalusha Bwalya remains FAZ President Zambia National Soccer Team will never have a formidable coach whether at local or international level.

    • You condemned him when he brought Herve Renard and we won the AFOCN under him.You condemned him when he said local coaches were not ripe for the national team job and today its been proved. Why cant those that are better administrators challenge him and oust him than always insinuating without facts! Chipungu is another ignorant chap who nearly wrecked our game with his reckless decisions. The worse Minister of Sports OF THIS GENERATION!

  13. @Amos mumba I conquer wit u on that 1 we cannot jst blame Kalu,he simply gave us wat we were crying 4(a local coach) nd we shud also give him credit 4 bringing ZPL on supersport atleast we r able 2 monitor these local players. Among other achievements though, thr has been some shortcomings too.

  14. We are not solving the problem, the issue of our national team underperforming is caused by FAZ, the moment we kick out they kalu team, that’s when our chipolopolo will tick.

  15. There shall be no kicking out FAZ as bad as they are and are indeed to blame for all this mess. They won’t leave themselves.

We don’t want the mess of fighting on our hands but let the Faz leadership be won fair and square within the law at the right time.

I hope and and pray that a strong challenge will be mounted!

If you are a supporter of Kalu even you must see that time has come. One must move on for their own good and that of Zambian Football. Who see’s that or it Blatter mentality again.

  17. U-20 world cup:
4 africans made it to last of 16.
1 team(MALI) is through to the quarter final stage.
1 team(GHANA) is out of the competition.

    Ghana U20 0-3 Mali U20

    Ukraine U20 vs Senegal U20

    Germany U20 vs Nigeria U20.

    • When people are expressing debatable ideas, u will never hear of Paradox . Cry for ZAMBIA for not being at the World Cup. The CHIPOLOPOLOS were knocked out of afcon(group stage), even out of COSAFA . But this nonentity has no idea, no suggestion, no opinion , no recommendations. However interested in MALI under 20 massacring Ghana after Ghana topped the group stage. Ghanas group included Argentina , the tournament favourites. It is likely the ZAMBIAN under 20 will go to the semi finals & meet the likes of Brazil & Germany. Grow up, Mr. Ideas needed to rejuvenate the CHIPOLOPOLO in order to qualify for the World Cup for the FIRST TIME . Aren’t u worried ZAMBIA has never played at the World Cup? I am.
Any way, MALI played a remarkable game . They were just like Barcelona & wishing them further laurels . Senegal doing fairly well. Unfortunately, the African Giants. Nigeria are out. They were the best African team going in. Very unfortunate they are out. Best of luck to MALI & Senegal’. The west Africans are still there.

  18. THE GHANA BLACK METEORS HAS BEEN WALLOPED BY A WEST AFRICAN
MALI-3 GOALS TO -0..SENEGAL WON ON PENALTIES TO UCKRAIN..

WELL I THINK THE YOUNG EAGLES WILL ALSO WIN WITH GERMANY
    TOMORROW..GOOD LUCK WEST AFRICANS..

  19. Paradox, make sure you don’t disappear from zamfoot tomorrow. Because The Super Flying Eagles are beating the young german machines tomorrow.

And you really need to stop your over-age chants. I am sure you won’t this if your team was participating in this world cup.

  20. Toiletman…. Shut up! Go watch the match and see the ANCESTORS OF MALI against young ghanaian team!!

Their central backs are probably older than KALU HIMSELF!!!

    PUUUU

  21. @Gaddaffi cannot believe those accusations are coming from your mouth.bro your granpas were not just good enough against their fellow granpas, period.

  22. @Paradox: what idea (s), if any, do u have to enable the ZAMBIAN under 20 to make a frantic effort at qualifying for the next under 20 World Cup.? Respond if none.
Any way, have not heard from your equally narrow minded for a long time . AFRICA will never surge forward the minds like u two .
