Lubambo set to return to Chipolopolo set up as Vandenbroeck goes for experience against Namibia

Armenian based winger Lubambo Musonda is primed to make a return to the Chipolopolo set-up after three year absence, the ZamFoot Crew can exclusively.

New Chipolopolo Boys coach Sven Vandenbroeck is expected to name the winger in his provisional squad to face Namibia next month on Friday morning at Bola House.

The 23 year old mercurial winger last featured for Zambia on 15th November 2015 in the 2-0 win over Sudan in a World Cup preliminary round qualifier.

The former Power Dynamos and National Assembly winger who marked his international debut with a goal in 2014 in the 4-3 friendly match defeat against Japan was in forced exile after George Lwandamina took over the Zambia national team coaching job from Honour Janza.

Wedson Nyirenda followed the trend as he continued to ignore the talented winger who is in his fifth season in Armenia.

“Sven watched Gandzasar’s [Lubambo] Europa tie against Poznan and was impressed with what he saw,” the ZamFoot Crew source said.

The Gandzasar Kapan winger has already featured twice in the league this season.

Last season was his most successful in Armenia after he scored 8 goals in 27 appearances beating his previous tally of 5 goals in 29 from the 2016/17 season.

On the international scene, Lubambo has been capped at all levels.

He has also captained Zambia Under-17, Under-20 and Under-23.

The diminutive winger is the only Zambian active player to have featured at three continental tournaments in a calender year.

In 2015, he played in all the games at the African Cup of Nations as Zambia bowed out of the tournament at group stage level.

He then captained Zambia at the CAF U20 2015 African Cup of Nations before captaining the late Fighton Simukonda’s Olympic team in Senegal in December 2015.

Some of the players who featured at both junior tournaments are Toaster Nsabata, Charles Zulu, Spencer Sautu, Patson Daka and Patrick Ngoma.

With Rainford Kalaba, Kabaso Chongo and Nathan Sinkala all set to be recalled, it will be interesting to see if the likes of Emmanuel Mbola and Evans Kangwa will be in the squad.
