Kalaba, Kalengo bag a brace each

Chipolopolo Boys captain Rainford Kalaba came off the bench to grab a brace in TP Mazembe’s 5-0 win over Lubumbashi Sport.

With Mazembe set to face Lupopo in the Lubumbashi derby next week on Wednesday,  the African Club Champions got a morale bolster with a 5-0 win.

Again Mazembe coach Hubert Velud kept faith in the ‘Mazambians’ with red hot Given Singuluma, Nathan Sinkala and Kabaso Chongo named in the starting XI while Kalaba started on the bench.

Kalaba came on as a 63rd minute sunstitute and was on target in the 76th and 84th minute.

Singuluma who has hit 6 goals in 4 games prior to the encounter was taken off at half time as he fell ill.

After the Lupopo match on 17th February,  Mazembe will host Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel.

In Congo Brazaville, Winstone Kalengo has continued to make headlines since his arrival and this time scored a brace as his club AC Leopards battled to a 2 – 2 draw against JS Talangai.

Leopards remain stuck in second position 4 behind leaders Diables.

Elsewhere,  Emmanuel Mbola and Evans Kangwa played 90 minutes as Hapoel Ranaana lost 2-0 in the Ligat ha Al

In Egypt, Emmanuel Mayuka has not been named in Zamalek’s team that will play against Al Ahly in the Cairo derby tomorrow.

Mayuka made his debut last week and Zamalek coach Mido withdrew him in the 58th minute.

In Greece, Roger Kola lasted only 41 minute when his team Veria won 2 – 0 over Kalloni.

Stopilla Sunzu watched from the bench as his team was held to a 1 – 1 draw by Rennes. Sunzu has made 8 appearances for Lille this season.

  1. thanks to kalengo, mbola, kangwa, Rodger kola & master kalaba, for yo hard working we need u guyz for the national team for sunzu he has to go back in china the ligue there has improved rather than warming the bench. That Lille coach is stupid he wil finish him if he is not careful.

    • He is now way too used to big pay cheques to come back to the slave salaries of the ZPL. If he was older maybe yes but he is still young.

    • Thanks for the link. The boy is real quality just needs to be less selfish at times until he can get to know his teammates. Interestingly he wears his old man’s number 8 jersey on his back.

      • Many thanks, Will for the video… I agree with Ngake about his selfishness….I think he is a bit too light…needs to eat plenty nshima and fresh fish/pale Mweru and rape/katapa his father grew up on in Muf

    • Belgium will never let go. He’s captained every Belgian national youth selection he has played in from age 14. He is a national asset for them….Just like Messi couldn’t be lured by Spain despite arriving there at the tender age of 13…

      • The point is that he is still eligible to play for Zambia, and until we hear from the young man himself and ask the question, we’ll never know.

    • I watched it too and was honestly impressed with the way he played. There were times he looked like he held the ball too long in the first half, but he settled into the position on the right side of midfield pretty well.

That young man can walk straight into the starting 11 for Zambia.

  2. Excited about watching Kalengo in the Chipolopolo jersey again. Kalaba also brings that X factor. Watching that CHAN squad was hard.

Its very sad that CHAN and COSAFA have not produced new must watch talent. I mean (I know I have used this example a thousand times) guys like Mbesuma were discovered during COSAFA. It was then that he made his debut against Mozambique, and scored a goal. Then it was from Roan United to Kaiser Chiefs.

And you also had Singuluma, Nyambe Mulenga, and Sakuwaha who came out of the first CHAN. Now I look at this last CHAN squad and I don’t see any real reliable talent aside from the golden oldies like Katongo, Chansa, Jacob Banda (who also started in the first CHAN), and Munthali who is pretty much already established. Is our league really that bad.

    • We have a lot of catching up to do but I think what we need a programme to develop new talents. DRC and Mali showcased exciting new talents along the tournament. DRC’s Mishak 19yrs from TP, best player of the competition, is on his way to stardom just like that other teenager, KOITA, from Mali. Like you say Positive Thinking there was no revelation from our side. Come to think of it those Mali boys are essentially average boys that have been properly coached from a young age….DRC outclassed them with their abundance of raw individual talents. Mishak must have been watching Kalaba… He plays just like the Maestro.

      • Thanks for pointing those out Kampinda. I’ve always said that Zambia is behind because Tactical and technical training happens so much later in player development.

  3. singuluma kalaba kalengo mbesuma are scoring brilliant goals 4 their clubs dis a the players we want in the national team the coach should bring this boys and do wandaz 4 their country come next month afcon qualifiers against congo brazaville

  6. The Chan squad did very well when u consider the fact that they had not played together for a long time! Infact the likes of Kabamba, cletus Chama, Adrian Chama,Mulao,Musekwa,Salulani,Mwelwa Phiri,Mfune had never played together and as a result they all lacked cohesion! All this because of “King Kalu the hare”! The boys whom he imposed on Janza and later Lwandamina were nowhere to be seen at Chan! You cannot field over 6 new players at a tournament and expect to go far. The buck stops at Kalus door step! He is fully responsible for the mess in the national team. This seller of tickets on the black market must be removed from FAZ without delay,

  7. Kalengo bits double figures in Congo. He scored a brace in Ac Leopards’ 2-1 win. He has 10 goals and a leading goal scorer. Mbesuma has 12 goals. He scored in a 2 all draw with Ajax Cape Town.
