As the count down continues until the Africa Women’s cup of nations, the Copper Queens seem set, prepared and ready for the 12th edition of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The Copper Queens who took on Morocco in a friendly match last weekend seem to be ready for the tournament after having prepared for a good amount of time.
Zambia has been placed in group B,alongside Cameroon, Togo and Tunisia and the team is not underestimating any opponent.
In an interview with the ZamFoot Crew, Midfielder Ireen Lungu said ,The team is working hard and looking foward to get to the quarter finals.
“Every team is tough, and always improving, we can only push, improve ourselves too and work extra hard so that we can get to the quarter finals,” Lungu said.
“We have worked on the scoring area in which we were lacking when we played Morocco in a warm up match.”
Having not played Tunisia and Togo before, Lungu is abit worried but optimistic that they will get through the group stage.
“We have never played Tunisia and Togo before and we don’t know their way of playing but will be ready for them,” She said.
Despite being strong opponents, the queens are geared for Cameroon and are not willing to take any chances.
“We played Cameroon before and we know their way of playing ,they are a tough team, but we will do our level best.”
Lungu encourages the fans to give the highest support as their goal is qualifying for the World cup.
“We just want more support from our country people and what we are promising them is qualifying to the World Cup,” she said.
The Copper Queens start their campaign against Cameroon at the Mohammed V stadium on July 3 before facing North Africans Tunisia three days later. They will wrap up their Group B engagement with a tie against debutants Togo on 9 July.
The top four finishers in Morocco will qualify directly for the World Cup to be jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand in 2023, while two additional teams will progress to the intercontinental play-offs.
