Grant to draft Kangwanda, Mashata in the AFCON Squad

Zambia coach Avram Grant is set to draft a number of players from the Cosafa Cup squad into the main national team.

Having missed Zambia’s 1-0 defeat to Malawi in the opening match of the 2023 Cosafa Cup edition, Grant arrived from Germany to watch the second match against Comoros.

Watching from the stands – as a ‘Technical Advisor’ – the former Chelsea gaffer has been impressed with host of players.

Top of the bill are the two wingers Albert Kangwanda and Golden Mashata of Red Arrows and Green Buffaloes respectively.

Having started the first match on the bench Kangwanda has been on fire scoring a goals each in his last 3 appearances including a sumptuous free kick in the semi final victory over Bafana Bafana.

Last year Kangwanda scored in the final to earn Zambia a 6th Cosafa Cup title.

Mashata has also been effective as Kangwanda at this year’s edition having been involved directly in four goals.

The 22 year old has scored 2 goals and 2 assists in the 4 matches he has featured.

Zambia face Lesotho on Sunday in the Cosafa final.

  1. Awesome progress by the team & great work from the technical bench. Let the duo start their journey with Comoros in the AFCON qualifier & thereafter deal with the urgent matter (P1) the WORLD CUP qualifiers. ✓

We need a strategy. A firm plan to deal with Morocco. If you are old enough to still feel the DERABER world cup pain, then you know why Morocco games are DO / DIE encounters.

There is nothing friendly or nice about those games from the footballing side…

  2. There is more in the Copper Queen squared . No smoke without fire. First sex scandals. Second money issue. Third goalkeeper mismanagement. Fourth 80%team opposed gender management team, violenting the Queens privates. Yes guys you have done the best. But remember you are not the best. You were just given the the chance. Some times I wonder how we prioritize issues in football cycles. Getting a Experience Coach for men on the expense of of our Queens who already in the WWC. Let as learn from French styles. Renner is back, but he is not the only one who propelled the team to WWC. Yes keep them to learn more but under the women’s experience coaching. Mind you guys Women world is quite different from men’s Worlds. Kaya Muno Mu Zambia?.

  3. my question to the FAz and the U23 bemch whocost us a potential Olympic ticket is thatthey saw Albert Kangandwa from Last years’s 2022 Cosafa and they faiked to use him in the crucial games against Egypt. I had hoped Zambia was serious about the Olympic qualification.
