Sichone dropped Lawrence Mulenga for bringing an agent in camp

Zambia’s Technical Bench led by Moses Sichone axed goalkeeper Lawrence Mulenga from the match day squad against South Africa after he broke ‘house rules,’ the ZamFoot Crew understands.

Following Zambia’s win over Seychelles in the final Group B match, images of the Power Dynamos goalkeeper with unnamed South African agent went viral on social media and this did not sit well with the Sichone and his assistants.

“The coaches were upset with Lawrence for breaking camp rules. Sichone had a quick chat with his boss [Avram Grant] who is also here and it was decided that the player is dropped,” an insider told the ZamFoot Crew.

Mulenga recently became the darling of the Chipolopolo faithful following his impressive performance against Ivory Coast in an African Cup of Nations qualifier.

He started Zambia’s three group stage matches and felt to keep a clean sheet prior to being dropped.

With Mulenga left in the stands, Sichone handed newly promoted Super League side Trident FC’s second choice goalkeeper Francis Mwansa his competitive debut while Nchanga Rangers’ Victor Chabu deputised on the bench.

Mwansa did well and showed composure as he helped Zambia to a 2-1 win over arch rivals South Africa on Friday.

Zambia will face Lesotho in the final on Sunday as the Chipolopolo boys seek a record seventh Cosafa Cup triumph.

Zambian players should strive to cross tje Mediterranean Sea to which ever country at all costs.

  2. South African clubs buy Zambian players to finish them. That’s been the trend since we won Afcon in 2012. In the same period SA club and country are pushing their profile while we play second fiddle. Wake up Zambians!
