Chipolopolo Boys coach Honour Janza says going for the Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON) finals without a contract is demoralising.
And Janza says chaotic travel arrangements that forced the Chipolopolo to postpone departure for Equatorial Guinea from yesterday to today could affect the performance of the team.
Janza said from Johannesburg yesterday that he has been quiet hoping the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) will offer him a contract before the start of the AFCON.
Janza took over from Frenchman Patrice Beaumelle last August.
He said all the coaches at the 2015 Equatorial Guinea tournament have contracts with their respective governments or football associations.
“I am going there [Africa Cup] to compete with coaches who have contracts… in fact, not only contracts but good ones. But with me, I have nothing, not even a memorandum of understanding,” Janza said.
He said things need to be in order for a team to succeed.
“They [FAZ] should have given me a contract even for one month to cover me during the Africa Cup period. But there is nothing, not even a draft copy, so I am in a tricky situation,” Janza said.
He wondered why he has not been offered a contract despite qualifying the Chipolopolo for the AFCON.
And Janza said it was unfortunate that the team failed to leave for Equatorial Guinea yesterday as planned.
“I thought we learnt a lesson from what happened when we were going to Cape Verde. We have lost a day and if by any chance we leave tomorrow [today], then we will only arrive on Friday and we have a game on Sunday.
“We need to avoid such arrangements, they are not good for the team,” he said.
Zambia start the campaign with a clash against Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Sunday.
Cape Verde and Tunisia are the other teams in Group B.

Hi,
Its very disturbing to hear that our Zambian team each and every tournament they have to go through hardship to have necessary funds for the competition yet we have a great man who at one time was the player and knows the in and out of what is required. Not Mentioning your name please make sure you put everything in place before you go out and attend awards.Your priorities comes first and if you think you had enough please step down and leave the office. You have started misusing the office and it should not continue as you know football is our number one sport in Zambia.Boss not any more and give our nation coach a contract immediately or tell every one who you as a coach?.Its very unfair what FAZ doing.
Thanks,
Yamwela.
Kalusha mentioned a few weeks ago that “Janza has earned himself a contract by qualifying Zambia to 2015 AFCON”. What has gone wrong now? So contracts have to be offered through a word of mouth now. Kalusha as somebody who’s been a players before should know these things. I am lost for words that the guy would be behaving like this.
I am just wondering if the national team players are even given training allowances and all the monies they are entitled to.
Ba FAZ kwena fiwelewele fye mwee.
If Zambia loose, then we blame Janza.Abena Zambia bwafya mwe. If it was a player complaining he could have been dropped.
The Dutch coach can win that tournament.
Jana is very right, he may not be fit for this job but the man needs security and motivation. Coz now they have just given him an excuse to fail.
Sorry not jana but janza.
So if a man is not fit for the job, you then offer them a contract so they coach the team for 3 years whilst not being fit??
Let Janza proove himself! Only by the grave of god did we qualify, also thanks to the plea of fans for him to not do what he was doing and pick a proper team. I understand the workers rights on this issue but to be honest Janza should just be happy he has this opportunity. Many local coaches would have deserved a shot but very few actually get a shot.
Another issue is the political situation, i think FAZ cannot engage funds in the current climate, so they cannot commit to anything. There is no money for foreign coaches or otherwise which is my theory/guess. Wise maybe, but this Faz i not sure they serious, maybe need to be replaced like veterans.
…Grace of god…
You’re wrong Papa, very wrong. Janza is very RIGHT on this one. It’s not a question of Janza proving himself, that is out. It is just logical that the guy be given a contract. If it was a foreign coach, FAZ could have given him a contract. Kalusha himself mentioned that Janza has earned himself a contract by qualifying Zambia to AFCON, what has gone wrong now? Its this lack of respect for our own locals that is helping to kill Zambian football. We have to respect and be proud of our own. FAZ is just a mess.
FAZ should call me to assist in drafting a legally binding contract for coach Janza
Ndipo how people are still employed at FAZ is beyond me!! And I know it might not be Kalu’s fault TOTALLY but as Peterson says,’yikapunka munthu bus,ba manga driver noti ma passenger!!’ This is now getting very embarrassing!!!
Why dont we learn from our mistakes. This guy took over under very difficult circumstances the least faz should have done to thank him is to atleast give him a contract. After all he qualified the team with one game to spare. Its high time we changed people at FAZ. This is 21st century lets do away with these mediocrity football administrators we have at FAZ.
I think kalu should now give chance to other who are more competent than him. Looks like the man has run out of ideas.
This is terrible news.! In my opinion FAZ is using Honour Janza like a sacrificial lamb or a laboratory rat in order to find someone to blame when we perform poorly at the Afcon games in Equatorial Guinea. If Janza was an ‘expatriate ‘ coach he would at least been given the necessary tools to succeed.
This is unacceptable and FAZ should be taken to task over the shoddy preparation, poor travel arrangements and the Janza contract issue. How do you expect a coach to do well with all these negative issues hanging over his head. Enough is enough!
With all these discouraging new,i can only wish our beloved Chipolopolo and the coaching bench all the best and to take heart.
Stop complaining and make the best out this unfortunate situation…players told me how ‘big’ the game was when you were in charge against Chile, when we were beaten 2-0, that you couldn’t get them going, no plan for creativity or no plan for holding them…how then are you going to motivate the boys to play and complete in Afcon when you are already looking for excuses for failure????? If you are feeling this way and telling the world, what is it that you are telling your team??? You have had three weeks of training, three practice games-YOU ARE READY…JUST SLEEP THE WHOLE DAY ON SAT!! Leave FAZ to us as we look on and see the shame that Kalu has brought to our soccer…had it not being for the Gabon fall of 93 we couldn’t have been champs…GO OUT THERE AND SHOW AFRICA THAT ZAMBIANS STAND TOP AGAINST WHATEVER NATURE AND POOR ORGANISATION THROWS AT US, BE IT THE DEATH OF A TEAM OR PRESIDENT…OR FAZ LEADER LIVING ABROAD, FIGHT AND FIGHT NOT ONLY TO SHOW US THAT YOU NEED A CONTRACT, BUT FOR YOURSELF AS WELL…SO THAT YOU MAY SLEEP WELL AT NIGHT!
Cannot see any sense in your posting Mr, the guy is geniunely complaining about this inept FAZ and you say he is finding a scape goat for failure. This issue is demotivating to the players and the whole technical bench, how do you expect the team to peform with such negative vibes coming out coz of the inept FAZ. This is not baseball or netball where you just sleep over issues and pretend as if there are no problems and tomorrow you are on the pitch playing, this is football for God’s sake and the players MUST BE mentally prepared for the game. Ati JUST SLEEP on saturday, are you a soccer fan by the way? Do you know what happened in Ghana when the team had to practice on car park? Do you know what happened in Cape Verde? We lost all these two games because of shaddy preparations, if you have nothing to do please find another sport to support than soccer coz i see you are in the wrong parking. Janza we are with you on this one these chaps at FAZ better pull up their socks we cannot be singing the same song every year without change. YOUR TIME IS UP KALU AND YOUR TEAM JUST RESIGN HONOURABLY!!!!
Me too, I wAS wonding What He Is Trying To Say?
@ Prince please clarify something for me. Your statement “had it not being for the Gabon fall of 93 we couldn’t have been champs” what exactly do you mean? To me it sounds as though you attribute our 2012 victory to the 93 disaster.
Sorry gents for replying late…Ba Brave Nchanga Rangers you don’t deserve a response from me because you have failed to separate the issue from the person, you have gone on to attack me as a person and not the issue I raised…basic mature debate tactics…, or by the way, I have played for Chipolopolo 94-2002…
Ba Paradox read between the lines…this situation is unfortunate, there is a time to discuss such contract issues and not when you are about to depart, moral and motivational issues at play tata…
Ba Biggy Steve mudala I was one of the Zambians that went down to the ocean in 2012 with the players, the emotional grip mudala is what no training or money can buy you, the way the boys felt the whole time we where there-it was amazing, Gabon 93 brought out something in them that will never happen again, it made them believe and they did!…its like 94 Afcon when a third sting Chipolopolo reached the finals…you had to be there phyiscally in 94 or 2012 to really understand what I mean…
this is not the kind of news that should be coming out of camp 2 days before the tournament is scheduled start. if Kalu has failed to perform his duties may he please step down
1st he interferes with team selection
2nd he fails to make travelling plans that a team and country like Zambia in 2015 should have.
3rd he fails to give a man who helped us to qualify for AFCON a contract.
thats three strikes!!
The coach is write. My advise to my friend is that work first and come back to them. We will help you to fight for your contract. Go and perform the nation is behind you. We will support you. FAZ has very competent men I believe they have already made recommendations to Ministry of Sports over your contract. You have already passed through the first phase by qualifying the team to Africa Cup 2015..
Wishing you and the players all the best in E/G. It’s the nation’s prayer that you do better ,
Kalusha has been the one pushing for janza to be given the contract infact he gave the directive but to no avail as thus he is threating to crack the whip so dont blame the guy
Janza you strike me as someone who does not know his value.
Why didn’t you demand a contract or make some noise in that regard. Take it personal and find out from informed people, there is a lot out there, they can advise you how to handle the matter otherwise in case you lose your job against your will you stand to lose largely because there is nothing to support you in such a situation.Mr. Janza you can demand a contract even today or quit today if they do not offer you one. In fact this is the right moment to ask/demand for a contract.
It’s not the first time this is happening. Renard was only given a contract after winning Afcon. Janza should go and win the trophy first. This guy hasn’t been consistence. He doesn’t deserve the job. And for him to start going to the media something must have gone sour with Kalusha. Watch the space
No, not with Kalusha, in another post there is news that the SG is the bad “Chief Executive” at Football house. He is the one messing up everything – delaying the offering of the contact to Janza, delaysin the team’s departure, e.t.c. Leave out Kalu in all this.
This is what i always talk about about day in and day out on this blog. I am called names for only saying the truth. I am insulted for calling a spade a spade and not a big spoon. The end is near for the bunch of CRIMINALS at FAZ. We have had enough of them and they have to go!
pls close yo mouth just contribute positively nt I tolt u I told u iam tied this spade spade shirt
We are already out of the AFCON even before a ball is kicked. We are the masters of our own downfall. FAZ never seems to learn from it’s lessons. Honour Janza is not motivated. You can even tell from the tone of the interview. There are alot of things that he said and Zamfoot has not published it. He is not happy. He is sick and tired of FAZ and Kalusha. He has had enough of their style of management. The whole system at FAZ is rotten and needs a complete overhaul!
the league should not kickoff this year till kalu leaves office. ponga should take over. no team should agree to travevel for any fixture till kalu leaves. staffs at football house have not been paid for months and our national team is forced to put on the cheap zawa Jezz. up to now no one knows the super sport deal except kalu, surely giving k150 to shepolopolo for the intire afcon. the one million dollar from the Japan friendly game went without explanation. the league should not start till this man leaves office
Atleast janza is faz technical director and inchange of all coache’s @ football house he cn take care of the national team wen thr is no coach let him jst do the job tht his paid for why shud he evn cry for a contract.wishn chipolopolo all the best
Where is Simaata Simaata to comment on these issues Has been stoned to death or silenced . Simaata where are you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Kekekekekekeke. He’s been commenting lately praising Janza
Commending-for dropping Dinosaurs that miserably flopped in 2013 and are not needed anywhere near our team, unless we are alligators (still exist despite being the same age with dinosaurs)!
where did kalu get his management skill?two dayz to go but our team still in the limbo!
true or false janza has the right to complain, its not good he has a point, even a month contruct would ve given, janza show them how great you re they want to chew the money.
Let us talk about Late departure for Chipolopolo not contract issues. JANZA was suppose to dress about this issue immediately after his struggle qualification for Chipolopolo not this time it is null and Void ; just disturbing minds of Our Players. Let him start planning how to defeat his Opponents in Group stage .
Hahahaha Kikikikikiki nothing to contribute ati he ,Kalu with his fellow pathetic clowns at FAZ,should be chased just like the ” veterans” and also ati spade for spade but not a big spoon bro is this your intro ,fans you tickle me.
He has started excuses after realizing that he has taken a COSAFA/CECAFA team to AFCON.Who can he cheat, we have all been employed before in similar circumstances but after performing, good things will come.Steven Keshi won AFCON without a contract.Meaning kalu has no confidence in Janza, had it not been for Nick Zambia wouldn’t be at AFCON by now.
@ nazo dont lie to us. Where have you seen someone working without a contract .dont support mediocrity
I bear with the Coach but I also do not agree with him speaking to the press coz his statement can discourage the whole team … advice to our dearest Coach … keep up the good works and rewards will never be with held from you any longer … imagine Sir Janza you winning the AFCON …. keep your heart on the ball the Contract will surely come … say you were relieved of the job … you have nothing to lose already you are among the gallant Zambian coaches who have taken the Chipolopolo to the Africa Cup … dear Sir your rewards are coming … just avoid the Press … some things get twisted …. Shalom … as for FAZ, do the best you can to be Sir HJ and the whole team Happier … the rest of us shall support anything Zambian …
Too late to save Jerusalem, where were all this time to start complaining now? when we cried for experienced players, you didn’t wana hear us now you want sympathy from us? twakana, just do what you’re supposed to do and if you fail you’ll be fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirrrrrrreeeeed.
@ Duncandinho, you are right man. You don’t defend thieves thinking they won’t steal from you. Janza knew he had no contract but he was busy hiding and prended things were ok. But its too late now, Kalu has just used him and when he comes back,he will nolonger be near the team. I feel for you but learn to tell the truth early when things are not ok.
