SOCCER icon Kalusha Bwalya is happy to be part of Zambian football again and is looking forward to contributing a role in uplifting the standards of the game after being appointed national team technical subcommittee vice-chairperson.
And Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba says the appointments of several people into sub committees is part of the process to uniting the football family as he had promised during campaigns.
Kalusha, a former FAZ president, said he has always been ready to step forward and contribute to the development of Zambian football.
Since losing the FAZ presidency to Andrew Kamanga in 2016, Kalusha was sidelined from the beautiful game.
The national team technical subcommittee will be headed by Mweemba.
In an interview yesterday, the 1988 African-footballer-of-the-year, said he felt honoured with the appointment and will do his best to contribute to the development of the game.
“I would to thank FAZ president Keith Mweemba and his executive for the recognition, I have always been ready to step forward and contribute to Zambian football if called upon and I hope I will make a meaningful contribution,” he said.
Kalusha said Zambia still has abundant talent and potential to regain its status as one of the powerhouses in African football.
Kalusha was FAZ president when the Chipolopolo won a maiden Africa Cup of Nations title in 2012.
Other people appointed in the national team technical subcommittee are former national team striker Kenneth ‘Bubble’ Malitoli, veteran coaches Patrick Phiri and Dan Kabwe, FAZ Central Province chairperson Chisanga Pule and FAZ women’s representative Priscilla Katoba.
And Mweemba said in an interview yesterday that FAZ will continue appointing various people into sub committees.
He said no person has monopoly of wisdom and football will only develop if all stakeholders are brought together to play a role.
“For me is doesn’t matter, I want everybody and I mean everybody is important including my predecessor Mr Andrew Kamanga. I want him to play a role, even my traditional cousin Adrian Kashala I want him, talk about Emmanuel Munaile, or Mr Francis Hafwiti they are all important,” Mweemba said.
He said elections and campaigns are over and now it’s time to deliver.
“We are in office slightly over three months. In those elections there was no winner or loser. We must work together, soon more people will be appointed on these committees,” Mweemba said.
