Daka, Mwepu, Copper Queens and Bruce Mwape land CAF awards nominations

Austrian based Zambia national team duo of striker Patson Daka and midfield ace Enock Mwepu, The Women’s national team and their head coach Bruce Mwape have all been nominated for the 2019 CAF Awards.

This follows the announced made by the Continent’s football governing body shared on their social media pages and monitored by the ZamFoot Crew.

YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR.

Daka and Mwepu join 14 other youngsters in vying for the prestigious gong. The others include former Real Madrid player Acraf Hakimi, Malian trio of midfielder Amadou Haidara and forwards Sekou Koita and Moussa Djenepo. Senegalese Krepin Diatta, Nigerian duo of Samu Chukwueze and Ohsimen among others.

Patson Daka and Enock Mwepu despite not having achieved anything with the national teams (U23 and Senior) have been in fantastic form for their Austrian Bundesliga side Redbull Salzburg both in their local league and Europe’s most prestigious club competition, The UEFA Champions League.

Patson Daka is chasing his second CAF young player of the year award having scooped it back in 2017 after helping the Zambia U20 national team to the U20 AFCON tournament and Redbull Salzburg to the UEFA Youth League triumph.

WOMEN’S TEAM OF THE YEAR

The Zambia Women’s national team has been nominated for the 2019 CAF Women’s team of the year.

The Copper Queens have to overcome stiff competition from fellow 2020 Olympic qualifiers finalists Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, South Africa, and Kenya. The Zambia Women’s national team has been fantastic in 2019 winning Silver at the 2019 COSAFA Women’s Cup and reaching the final stage of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics qualifiers.

WOMEN’S COACH OF THE YEAR

Zambia Women’s national team head coach Bruce Mwape has been nominated for the Women’s coach of the year accolade. Mwape guided the Copper Queens to COSAFA Women’s Cup silver medals and the final round of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic qualifiers.

The Nchanga Rangers boss will battle Nigeria’s Thomas Dennerby, South Africa’s Desiree Ellis, Ivory Coast’s Clementine Toure, Cameroon’s Alan Djeumfa and Kenya’s David Ouma.

However, Copper Queens star player Barbara Banda has missed out on the Women’s player of the year nomination.
