Cosafa: Zambia silence favorites Cameroon

The Zambia national women’s team shot to the top of Group with a massive 1 – 0 win over continental giants Cameroon.

Lushomo Mweemba scored in the 39th minute from a free kick and it was enough to settle the game as Zambia ran out as deserved winners in a game they dominated.

Cameroon came into the game buoyant after they beat Mozambique 8 – 1 in their opening game they were frustrated by a well organized Zambian team.

In the early kick off in Group B, Mozambique recovered from the loss to Cameroon to beat Lesotho 2 – 1.

Camerppm are currently ranked 48th in the world and third in Africa while Zambia are ranked 108 in the world and 15th Africa.

Both Cameroon and Zambia have qualified to the to Women Africa Cup to be played this year.

  1. Well done girls, I was withholding my adulation for the Lesotho match CO’s bk in my head , I knew suthus are not in Zambia’s class ( no disrespect just personal opinion ) but downing the lioness’s of Cameroon got me on cloud 9…….We’ll done girls kwasala Banyana banyana.
    If possible arrange a friendly against World Women’s Champions Japan b4 the Women’s Africa cup.

  2. Well done girls. But bwana reporter, what is massive about 1-0 victory? The scoreline is a slender victory but certainly points matter. Choice of words?

    • Bwana George, if your follow right from the headline, the size of this win is not in the number of goals but the strength of the opponent brought down. To add a little more detail to help perception, Cameroon were runners up at the last Africa Cup of Nations and represented Africa at the last World Cup where they had a decent run coming out in the round of 16.

      Zambia has only been to the Africa Cup once in 2014 when it was hosted by Namibia

    Then remembered a few moons ago the real Chipolopolo:
    Zambia 0 Mozambique 1 in Lusaka.

    When I saw the prospects of our lasses meeting the dreaded Cameroun,
