COSAFA Women’s Championship: Copper Queens stroll past Namibia

Full-Time

Zambia WNT 3-0 Namibia WNT (Margaret Belemu 45+1′, Grace Chanda 66′, Mary Wilombe 85′)

The Copper Queens have maintained a hundred percent winning record at the ongoing 2021 COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa after they silenced neighbors Namibia 3-0 in a second group C match played this afternoon at Madibaz Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

The match saw Red Arrows players dominate as they registered themselves on the scoresheet with a goal each to help the Copper Queens to an emphatic win.

Overlapping full-back and player of the match Margaret Belemu opened the scores with a superb shot just at the stroke of halftime before captain Grace Chanda opened her account at the tournament with a second goal just after the hour mark with a fine strike outside the 18-yard area to make it 2-0 to Zambia.

Just when Namibia thought it was over, another Red Arrows player Mary Wilombe added the icing on the cake with a third goal just 5 minutes before the end of the match to ensure a 3-0 victory for Coach Florence Nkatya Chalesa Mwila and maximum points for the Copper Queens.

In the earlier kick-off at the same venue, Uganda thrashed Eswatini 5-1 to keep their semi-final hopes alive ahead of their last Group match.

Zambia’s next match is a crunch encounter against Uganda on Tuesday at 15:30hrs and a draw will be enough for the Copper Queens to book a semi-final slot while Namibia will face Eswatini in a dead rubber match.

Zambia top Group C with 6 points from 2 games followed by Uganda with 4 points from 2 games also while Namibia is third with a point then Eswatini are rock bottom with no points.

  2. Have u looked on “Zebra Queens” as well to be considered on runners up.
The Queens needs an outright win in their last match.
