Zambia’s Chipolopolo have walked home with K6000 (about $300) for wining the seventh COSAFA title last week.
The team, comprising local-based players, beat Lesotho 1-0 in the final to be crowned champions.
According to information obtained, the Zambian lads at the competition were promised $200 each for a win at group stage, $400 each for victory in the semi-final stage and $500 each for victory in the final.
Moses Sichone’s side delivered two group stage wins against Comoros and Seychelles before dispatching South Africa in the semi-final and overcoming Lesotho in the final bringing the cumulative total in winning bonuses to $1300.
“We were shocked that we were only given K6000 when the promise was something else. They told us the rest of the money will be sent to us but this has been the story with everyone,” said an individual in the entourage.
Zambia won R500,000 (about K543, 000/ $27,000) for emerging top in the regional tournament.
FAZ General Secretary Reuben Kamanga is yet to be contacted on the issue.

SERIOUSLY??
WINNING THE TOURNAMENT $27 000. 22 PLAYERS WANT 1300 EACH = 28,600.
This is not including technical bench. Can we be serious about our demands.
But zoona zoona tinapya bwanji pa zed zoona…
These money issues with FAZ simply shows that the Ministry responsible for sport doesn’t care. We get this all the time with Zambia. It’s embarrassing and this MUST stop.
Don’t exploit the genuine ladies and gentlemen who want to represent out country well. What is 27000 US Dollar to be dodge about.
Players don’t give up the future is in your hands.
