Following goalkeeper Catherine Musonda’s suspension against Japan, the Copper Queens’ goalkeepers are in the lime light.
Below the ZamFoot Crew takes a look at three goalkeepers at coach Bruce Mwape’s disposal heading into the last two Group C matches against Spain and Costa Rica
Leticia Lungu – Replaced the injured first choice Hazel Nali in squad.
She is the designated second choice for Wednesday clash against Spain and then has revert to being third choice once Musonda returns from suspension for the Costa Rica match.
Eunice Sakala – made her World Cup debut as a late substitute in strange circumstances following Musonda’s red card.
Sakala will be in goal against Spain on Wednesday to win her full debut.
Catherine Musonda – The Turkey based shot stopper is suspended against Spain.
She is expected to return in goal for final group game against Costa Rica.
Can someone explain why the 1st yellow card for Musonda was not appealed against, since the penalty leading to the yellow card was overturned? Pardon me if the football rules have changed.
Otherwise, we should be good to go even with other goal keepers. Go ladies, conquer Spain and Mark at the word cup. All the best.
i thought i was the only one who observed that
Whilst your concern cld be in order, don’t forget that the cards can be issued even off the ball as long as the actions have been deemed to be outside the rules. Eg, u hit back at your opponent even if the decision is in your favor, u can be given a red card
That is correct on red card issue. My biggest concern with our lady’s team is our video analyst and our entire technical team did not do the proper job to analyse this fast Japanese team. Our game plan was offset. 1) we gave them alot of space to shoot 2) 4.4.2 didn’t work Barbra was. isolated we were forced to defend too deep.our defence was caught napping. 4.5.1 would have been the best formation for poor Zambia. It wont be easy game moving forward. 2wins is the only way to stay in the tournament.
Germiston, u are right, we are generally very poor at technical level analysis. And to be objective, we are going nowhere looking at the level of football being played technically, including other African teams, maybe SA/Nig. We just need to learn more from this tournament for future improvements. Otherwise, still wishing our ladies all the best of lucky including all other African teams
And Looking at how Morocco played at the last African tournament, which they hosted, they may as well be walloped not less than the margin we registered. Almost nowhere to run as African teams. We hope for a miracle to get to the group stages. Maybe SA/Nig have a bit of chance to progress
Good comments indeed fellow Zambians.Otherwise women have so far achieved more as compared to Men who haven’t participated in any world cup match.Go copper queens GO.
The yellow card is still standing because the penalty was cancelled due to offside not the Japanese play making up or faking up the penalty
Copper queens go end go pray well in the name of juses .god bless you coppers
