Copper Queens give away 3-1 lead to draw with Switzerland

The Zambia Women’s National Team gave away a 3-1 half time lead to share spoils with Switzerland in an international friendly match played at Tissot Arena in Bienne.

Coach Bruce Mwape maintained the team that started in the 3-2 loss to the Republic of Ireland.

It was the hosts who broke the deadlock after eight minutes, Ana Maria Crnogorcevic finishing off from close range.

The Copper Queens responded almost immediately as Grace Chanda levelled matters in the 13th minute with a beautiful finish.

Seven minutes later Barbra Banda broke free and went on solo run before scoring with a powerful shot to put the visitors in the lead.

Rachel Kundananji made it 3-1 just before halftime as the hosts failed to deal with a Xiomara Mapepa free kick.

The Copper Queens however capitulated in the second half allowing two goals.

The hosts came from the break looking determined to change the state of affairs and it only took 9 minutes for Seraina Piubel to pull one back with a close range finish.

Substitute Coumba Sow levelled matters in the 81st minute with the defence looking suspect again.

Zambia thought they would be awarded a penalty when Hellen Chanda was brought down in the box but the referee waved the protests away.

Both teams could not find the winner and settled for a draw in the end, 3-3 the match ended, an entertaining 6 goal thriller for the spectators.

  1. They are lacking concentration,no fighting spirit among the girls coz more pressure were needed the time they were leading instead They leave the room for their opponent to put more pressure on them
This one I’m disappointed coz this is not the small team

  2. They are playing in the first half and loose concentration in the second half the same thing happened even in the game they played with Ireland. I’m afraid if we to the world cup with such performance we will not reach far

  3. The defense is very poor and going to cost us games. Let’s stop encouraging ourselves by saying we played well despite the defeat or draw it will take us away from noticing our failures and mistakes. The team needs to improve especially at the back. We don’t even have good goalkeepers

  4. We didn’t use long balls enough after 3-1. It’s a technique to reorganise in midfield. Out it out high on the pitch and reorganise.

You have to play many games in 1. Love it!!!

  5. Apart from the nagative habit of conceding early, the girls seem to be starting the game well, with energy and intensity. By the end of the first half, they are usually on top of the game and one would wish the game goes on uninterrupted! Unfortunately, these European coaches seem to be miles ahead of our coach when it comes to sorting out their mess at half time and figuring out a way to stop uur girls from playing. I wonder what team talk our coacha gives the girls at half time to ensure they stay on top of the game. To me, it seems like they girls come out with the mentality that they will just pick up from where they left off… Sadly, they seem to get lost when the opponents change their tactics even slightly…. Our coach is too rigid tactically, and he’s not bold enough to make changes, even when the game is clearly calling out for some. All in all, the girls have the ability to deliver, but our coach lacks tactical game management!
