Copper Princesses return to Levy Mwanawasa Stadium this weekend

The Zambia U17 National team will be in action this weekend at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium against Benin in the first leg of the final qualification round for the 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.

The Copper Princesses set up a meeting with Benin following a 4-0 win over Tanzania on aggregate.

The second leg was played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium with Natasha Nkaka scoring the only goal of the match.

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) confirmed through their weekly update, the President’s corner.

“This week our under-17 women national team have an important FIFA World Cup first leg, final round qualifier against Benin in Ndola.

The under-17 women were at the last FIFA World Cup in the Dominican Republic where Zambia made its second appearance after the 2014 class. The 2024 generation has a chance to make history with back-to-back qualification to the world’s biggest stage with Benin standing in their way.”

“Our team is already settled in Ndola ahead of this weekend’s game. A return to the world cup will give the team a chance to improve on their record at their last appearance where they exited at the first stage. We still have to get the qualification process out of the way before we leap too far ahead. “

FAZ President Andrew Kamanga has urged the fans to turn out in numbers to support the Copper Princesses.

“We can only appeal to fans to turn up in numbers to support our lasses at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, which is the only CAF/FIFA certified venue in our country.”

The West African Nation saw off DR Congo in the previous round 5-0 on aggregate.

The 2025 edition which will be the 9th edition of the global showpiece will be hosted by Morocco between 17th October and 8th November 2025.

Coach Carol Kanyemba will depend on the likes of Mercy Chipasula, Lweendo Hanongo, Masela Sekeseke, Taonga Mubanga, Grace ‘Pogba’ Phiri and Hellen Banda to lead the charge.

Natasha Nkaka is likely to miss the two legged tie due to injury, a big blow for coach Carol Kanyemba and her technical bench.

The Copper Princesses are aiming for a 3rd World Cup appearance after making it to the 2014 and 2024 editions.
