Copper Bullets aim to gun down Mauritania in dead rubber World Cup qualifier

The Zambia national team will this afternoon welcome Mauritania in a penultimate Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the National Heroes Stadium.

The Copper Bullets are already out of the race for a place in Qatar but pride is at stake and it’s a chance to start building towards future engagements.

Coach Beston Chambeshi is eying maximum points despite the match being a dead rubber and has promised to put up a team that will represent the country very well.

“The boys have been working hard and as a team. They know the importance of the game and we need to take maximum points,” Chambeshi told the ZamFoot Crew.

“There is a lot of improvement in our foreign-based players and there is a lot of competition and I know the boys and where they can play and a coach and my technical staff we are ready to pick a team that will represent us well.”

Midfielder Enock Mwepu was knocked out of the match by an injury and Chambeshi has admitted that the Computer is important but feels a replacement will just do a good job.

Chambeshi is adamant that his players know the importance of this afternoon’s clash.

” Yes, Enock (Mwepu) is a pillar, One of the good players who add value to the team but he is injured but we are hoping the one who will cover that position will do his best,” he said.

“These are World Cup qualifiers, there is a lot at stake. We may be out of the race but for sure we have to give our fans something to smile about, We will fight until the last game of the qualifiers.”

“The Boys know the importance of the game and they have to maintain their status with their clubs and they have to impress and make a mark,” he added.

Meanwhile, Skipper Lubambo Musonda has asked the fans to never give up on the team and continue supporting the Boys.

“The team is ready, and everyone is working hard to give the best. Am sure it will be a good game for us,” he said.

“The fans should never give up on us. We know the importance of the fans to the team they add a lot of confidence to the players. If you give up on us it won’t be a good thing. I will encourage them to keep supporting us and we will keep working hard to give them the results they deserve,” he added.

Zambia beat Mauritania away on matchday one with goals from the injured Mwepu and Kabwe Warriors diminutive midfielder Prince Mumba.

Tunisia tops Group B on 10 points while Equatorial Guinea lies second on seven with Zambia third on four. Mauritania is at the foot of the table with a point.

Only group winners will qualify to the final round of 10 teams that will be paired in two-legged ties that will culminate in the five winners qualifying to the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The kickoff for the match is at 15:00 hours with tickets for the game on sale across Shoprite outlets via Computicket. Tickets are pegged at K30 (North & South), K50 (East Wing), K75 (West Wing), and K250 (VIP).
