Zambia U20 Coach Hector Chilombo has named a provisional squad of 30 players for a residential training camp ahead of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) U-20 Championship to be hosted by Senegal from 8th to 22nd March.
The players will be based in Lusaka at the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Technical Centre in Lusaka and will hold their first training session on Friday, February 13 at Independence Stadium.
Former captain of the team Godfrey Ngwenya who missed the qualifiers owing to injury is back in the team.
The team will also be joined later by captain Lubambo Musonda and Saith Sakala who are both plying their trade outside the country. Chilombo has also named another foreign based player Mweene Mumbi who was not part of the team in the qualifiers.
Team Manager Daniel Jere told fazfootball.com on Friday that the team will not break camp and that the final squad of 21 players is expected to be announced on March 4.
“We will hold our first training session at Independence Stadium on Friday afternoon. The playing surface at Independence Stadium is similar to the one at Caroline Faye Stadium where Zambia will play two Group B matches against Mali and Ghana,” Jere said.
Zambia has been placed in Group B along with Ghana, Mali and South Africa. Zambia’s opening match will be against Mali on March 9 to be followed by the match against Ghana on March 12. The final group stage match will be played against South Africa at the Leopald Senghor Stadium on March 15.
Group Winners and runners-up from each group will qualify for the semi-finals and will book a ticket to the World Cup.

Good team this is the best under 20 we hv had in years
game on Baice show Janza how football is played.
This is our future Chipolopolo. It will be good for Zed football if these boys qualify to U-20 WC. It will be good exposure and marketing for them at the WC. Probably some of them can be spotted by some good clubs and probably be signed.
If zambia wins the afcon we will be in the same group with brazil at the world cup in new Zealand.
Zambia is a big team in africa why do we continue to disgrace ourselves by maintaining Janza as coach we need a European now.
We don’t want colonia masters ! I hate them man for wat thy did to our forefathers. !
If we go to the world cup in new Zealand we should aim to win that cup just like our brothers Ghana did in 2009.
I’m disappointed with your comment John. If you ended by saying we need a “better coach” I would have agreed
The Under 17 and under 20 teams are the ones to watch this year because they are so immensely talented players that will take this great football nation to greater heights. Watch the space!
This is one of the best Under 20 teams together with the one that went to the Under 20 world cup in Canada in 1997. FAZ should ensure that these boys are taken care of.
Remember,Nigeria are U-17 world champion with those players graduating to U-20…They beat all Nigeria top 4 club in pre-season competition…Watchout for them
hear hear
asante. thats wat u get in return for boastful comments.
PLEASE DON’T ATTACH JANZA TO THE UNDER 20 YOU WILL ATTACH FAILURE.
supersport will show some U17 young games and zambia will be beemed live when we take on Guine and Niger but not de ass Nigeria.
Lol! The last two words. Iyoo guys mulalanda.
Just check on the supersport website schedue
Many thanks Manfree.
Good luck to the young men. Wow, this group sounds tough though.
This is a solid U-20 team we have there. From the goal keeper to the strikers,I cant see any weak department in this team and I foresee the coach having a tough time in choosing his final team.Hope we conquer Africa, this time at U-20 level
Useless Nigeria u may say. But you need to understand one thing this useless team is finishing in atleast the top 4 in this tournament, probably reaching d final and winning the cup. Reasons below:
THis is the same team that played and conquered d world in the u-17 tourney, decimating all their opponents. Theirby making Nigeria the most decorated team in u-17 fifa world cup(4 times winner).
THe same team the same coach with only exceptions of Kelechi Iheneacho(u-17 wonder kid currently in Man city) and another dude.
THe competed in a preseason tournament meant for nigerian top 4 clubs in last season along side the olympic team for 2016 Olympic. This same team defeated all adult team they competed against, 5 teams and won the competition.(is like dis ur u-20 team playing and beating the likes of NKANA).
THis team is yearning for african cup which they lost narrowly to coast d’ivoire in the u-17 edition on penalties.
….. WELL I am sorry for advertising my national team here, I really don’t like doing this type of things but I saw someone labelling my country useless and this is the best way I can reply him.,PEACE.
Football z not playd in the past bro records can be broken if football depended on that then Nigeria could hv qualified to the afcon in equatorial,caMeroon ed senegal should hv been chaMps this year.zaMbia has a chance to iMpress what abt Nigeria? Ofcourse another trophy at this level but does realy Matter?wen u don’t replicate that at senior level or the world cup despite having world class players.so get the hell out of our blogg!
@Pundit…If you are wise enough, which I doubt from what I have written up there you should be able to deduce something from it. That Nigeria is building this team steadily, they are young and play a different kind of football, not basically African style but a combination of the european fast playing style, african style and a little of tiki taka.
This young lads are the future here, from u-17 to u-20, to u-23 for Olympics in Brazil in 2016 and by 2018 world cup most of them would find their way to the world cup team.
Ghana is into this pattern too and you can see how efficient it is for them. That young ghanian team is gud enough for next afcon 2017 and 2019.
If I may ask…..why is Patson daka missing in this team? Skipper at U/17 but not good enough for the U/20 team? Something is not right
