CAF severely punish ref who awarded E Guinea dubious penalty

The CAF Referees Committee has severely punished the Mauritian referee who controversially awarded a penalty to Africa Cup of Nations host Equatorial Guinea in injury time to send their game against Tunisia into Extra Time.

Equatorial Guinea subsequently went on to win the match to the annoyance of the Tunisian players and official who almost manhandled the referee Seechurn Rajindrapasard.

At its extraordinary meeting held at the CAF headquarters In Bata, Equatorial Guinea on the 2nd February, 2015, the CAF Referees Committee reviewed the performance of the referee Seechurn Rajindrapasard (Mauritius) during Match No. 26, Tunisia vs. Equatorial Guinea played on 31 January 2015 in Bata in the final tournament of the 2015 Orange Africa Cup of Nations.

The Referees Committee noted with regret the poor performance of the referee during the match, including an unacceptable failure to maintain calm and ensure proper control of the players during the match.

Hence the Referees Committee decided:

  • To end the mission of Seechurn Rajindrapasard as a referee for the Orange AFCON 2015
  • To suspend him for a period of six (6) months for poor performance
  • To delist him from the CAF “A” Elite Referees panel.

CAF has also imposed on the Tunisian Federation a fine of US$ 50,000 (Fifty Thousand United States Dollars) for the insolent, aggressive and unacceptable behavior of the players and officials of the Tunisian team during the aforementioned game.

  1. So why cant they reverse the decision of the match, a rematch some sort. Because in law a repeal can reverse the earlier judgement, you cant just reprimand the judge or a ref without looking at the decision itself. Whats the use when the damage is already done and “irreversible” decision? Tunisia should take it up to FIFA to discipline CAF too! Ki ki ki

  2. Corruption at Caf wins again, $50 000 in bank and that useless ref also received something from the equatarial guinea government, we will avenge for tunisia tommorow.

  3. CAF is just confused because even the deciding game between zambia and Capo verde should have not continued in such a condition, why allow a game to continue in a river? Who in CAF has ever played football in a river, these are some of the flaws that i noticed in this tourn
