Buffaloes reclaim top spot, Indeni rise to third as Assembly move out of relegation zone

Green Buffaloes Women are back at the summit of the ZPL Women’s Super League after an entertaining Week 24 that produced decisive movement at both ends of the table.

Buffaloes roar back to the top

Green Buffaloes returned to first place following a dramatic 3–1 comeback victory over Kamfinsa Blue Eagles Queens on Sunday. The Army-sponsored side fell behind in the 32nd minute when Memory Nthala turned the ball into her own net to hand Kamfinsa the lead.

Buffaloes responded before the break through Lydia Shamalima, who levelled matters on the stroke of half-time. With the game finely balanced, Maylan Mulenga kept her nerve from the penalty spot in the 80th minute to put Buffaloes ahead, before debutant Victoria Mbali wrapped up the win deep into added time (90+6’).

The result lifts Green Buffaloes to 56 points from 23 matches, reclaiming top spot ahead of ZESCO Ndola Girls, who sit second on 53 points with games in hand.

Indeni Roses surge into third

At DK Stadium, Indeni Roses delivered a convincing 3–1 win over Chipata Girls to strengthen their title push. Ngosa Chabwe struck early in the 4th minute before Founstina Ndelelwa doubled the advantage in the 39th minute. Hellen Banda sealed the contest with a late goal in the 81st minute.

Chipata Girls found a brief response through Memory Zulu, who converted from the penalty spot in the 29th minute, but Indeni remained in control. The victory moves Indeni Roses up to third place on 52 points after 24 games, firmly in the championship conversation.

Assembly step out of danger

National Assembly Women boosted their survival hopes with a crucial 2–1 victory over Trident Queens. Wezzy Mkandawire opened the scoring in the 38th minute before Patricia Lampi added a second in the 70th. Trident Queens pulled one back through Madrine Lukhelo in the 61st minute, but Assembly held on for a vital three points.

The win lifts National Assembly Women to 18 points, moving them out of the relegation zone on goal difference, level on points with Luyando Foundation Girls and Amazing Grace FC.

Mixed fortunes across the weekend

Elsewhere on Saturday, Nkwazi Queens and YASA Queens shared the spoils in a 1–1 draw. Zewelanji Nambeye gave Nkwazi the lead from the penalty spot in the 6th minute before Harriet Matipa equalised for YASA in the 36th minute. The result leaves Nkwazi Queens second from bottom on 16 points, while YASA Queens remain 12th with 22 points.

Konkola Blades Queens produced an impressive attacking display to beat Luyando Foundation Girls 4–2. Chisola Ng’andu, Towela Nkhata, Natasha Witika and Sampa Sascha Chisanga all found the back of the net for Blades, while Elina Mbewe and Catherine Mulenga scored for Luyando. Konkola Blades Queens stay eighth on 39 points, as Luyando remain locked in the relegation fight.

On Sunday, Green Eagles Women claimed a 2–0 win over The Elite Ladies thanks to goals from Cindy Banda (13’ pen) and Racheal Moono (45+3’). The victory consolidates Green Eagles’ sixth place on 43 points, while Elite Ladies drop to tenth with 29 points.

Zanaco Ladies and Red Arrows Women cancelled each other out in a goalless draw. Zanaco stay fourth on 50 points, just two behind Indeni, while Red Arrows sit fifth with 49 points.

Friday stalemate

Week 24 action had begun on Friday with a 0–0 draw between Nchanga Rangers Queens and ZESCO Ndola Girls. Despite dropping points, ZESCO remain second on the table with 53 points, while Nchanga Rangers Queens hold seventh place on 40 points.

At the top, Green Buffaloes Women lead the standings on 56 points, closely followed by ZESCO Ndola Girls (53) and Indeni Roses (52), setting up a thrilling title race. In the middle, Zanaco Ladies and Red Arrows Women remain within touching distance of the top three.

At the bottom, the relegation battle is equally intense, with National Assembly Women, Luyando Foundation Girls and Amazing Grace FC all tied on 18 points, while Nkwazi Queens, Chipata Girls and ZISD FC continue to fight for survival.
