Power Dynamos’ journey in the CAF Champions League came to an end on Saturday night after a 3–1 defeat to Pyramids FC in Cairo.
The Egyptian side started brightly and took an early lead in the 17th minute through Mosafa Zico, capitalising on sustained pressure.
Power Dynamos briefly found hope just two minutes later when Fredrick Mulambia struck in the 19th minute to restore parity and give the Zambian champions belief.
However, Pyramids quickly regained control of the contest. Youssef Obama made it 2–1 in the 33rd minute, punishing a lapse in concentration at the back as the hosts went into the break with a slender advantage.
Power Dynamos pushed for an equaliser in the second half but were left exposed as they chased the game.
Their resistance was finally broken in the 59th minute when Ewerton Da Silva sealed the win with a well-taken goal to make it 3–1, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback.
Despite the defeat, Power Dynamos exit the group stage with a respectable seven points, a campaign that included competitive performances against some of the continent’s strongest sides.
With the result, Pyramids FC advance to the quarter-finals alongside RS Berkane, as both sides progress from the group.
For Power Dynamos, attention now turns back to domestic duties and future continental ambitions after a spirited but ultimately unsuccessful Champions League run.
Elsewhere in the group, Morocco’s RS Berkane beat Rivers United of Nigeria 3-0.
Pyramids and Berkane have advanced to the quarter finals.
