Bornwell Mwape helps Amazulu to first league win

AmaZulu have finally won a match in the 2014/15 season following a 2-1 Absa Premiership victory against University of Pretoria with Zambian international Bornwell Mwape finding the back of the net.

AmaZulu went ahead in the 40th minute when Ouro-Akoriko scrambled the ball in after University of Pretoria failed to clear their lines.

Mwape then extended the lead in the 52nd minute after he fired home from close range.

AmaTuks pulled one back through Geofrey Massa.

This was coach Steve Barker’s first match in-charge of AmaZulu after he resigned as AmaTuks coach last week and marked Amazulu’s first win in 12 games.

  1. These guys are now scoring at will, is it that they have seen the AFCON and have realized the tough competiont in the squad? keep up guyz, if u convince fans enough, u can find yoself on that plane to Equatorial Guinea for Zambia’s second AFCON trophy within a space of 4 years.

  2. D-Day,we will take any opponate yes any opponate because if you want to be respected one has have faced the best and walloped them. Moreover any team which is in Malabo is good, adios amigos.

  3. Looking at the current performance of teams on the continent, Algeria, Cameroon, South Africa and Senegal are to be avoided at the AFCON.

  4. Janza shouldn’t have discarded off Chris Katongo so fast. He is one of the two most experienced players in Zambia. He is able to read the game very well so much that even when we are playing a strong team and come in from the bench he brings stability to the team which in most cases results in a goal. Yes we have new blood but none of them has the endurance, experience and intelligence of Katongo. We surely will need him for guidance at AFCON next January.

  5. Just an honest appeal to Zamfoot management to seriously consider covering international football news on this site. Somewhat embarrassing to go two or three days without anything new at all. And in saying this I don’t just mean giving updates on Zambians playing abroad. Much as this is a Zambian football site, we cannot deny the fact that we all follow the global game. Just saying.

  6. Good result for Bornwell and his new coach Steve Barker but I think it is really sad that they are bottom of the league with 7 points out of 12 games. Bornwell seems to be an on off player. Now he will probably score in the next two games then back to nothing for the next five after that. I hope his new coach will know how to bring the best out of him and how to develop consistency into his game.

I cant wait for 8PM to watch the AFCON draw tonight. I dont think we should sit back and hope to avoid the stronger teams, if we can get passed them in the early stages we stand a good chance.

So Sate Sate is likely coming to the PSL in January. I guess after trecking to Europe and Isreal and failing to clinch anything the next best thing for him is the PSL. I hope he does well should he sign with platinum stars and the fact that he has age on his side I hope in a season or two he finally realises his dream of Europe.

  7. Bornwel mwape is a plank. Mayuka. Sate sate and Jacob mulenga are the four strikers who should head to afcon
Rodgers kola is another to consider the young man is on fire in Israel. He has also scored some goals in the europa this season

  8. I wonder the quality of stadium Zambia will be playing its group matches since we shall be drawn in group D in Eq Guinea,s fourth ranked town.
Can’t wait to see mouth giants drawn against Algeria, Senegal and Cameroun in group B.

  9. I’m glad our under 17 and 20 teams have qualified for continental championships. These are the age groups that can produce players that can be groomed and nurtured into real prospects that can make it in European leagues. This is what has hampered many of our players who manage to clinch professional deals after the age of 23 or more. I really hope our younger boys can rise to the occasion during their respective tournaments.

  10. I think Zambia will be paired against Algeria, Gabon and Congo. No easy groups these days. All groups are groups of death. Teams that Zambia should avoid are South Africa, Cameroon, DRC and Algeria. Very very dangerous teams. As for IC, Ghana, we already know them. Bornwell Mwape should be consistent in his game. I don’t know when he last scored.
