Beston Chambeshi is new Zambia U20 coach

The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) have appointed “Quick Silver” Beston Chambeshi as the new U20 national team coach.

Chambeshi is currently drilling the squad which is in camp preparing for the 2017 Africa Junior Championship which will be hosted by Zambia.

In July 2015, FAZ had announced that Chris Kaunda would take over the U20 coaching job after successfully qualifying the U17 to their maiden CAF tournament.

However, the roles were reversed with Kaunda initially maintained with U17 before he was fired with Oswald Mutapa taking over.

Hector Chilombo who qualified junior Chipolopolo to the 2015 Africa Junior Championship in Senegal was initially tipped to mentor the U20 national team for the 2017 finals but FAZ has moved to bring back the former Nkana coach who was relieved of his duties by the Kitwe giants in May, 2015.

He moved to Botswana where he coach Botswana Defense F0rces football team after his stint with Nkana but he has severed his ties with the defense team after a reported dispute on player transfers and surfaced in Zambia as Lumwana Radiants coach.

Chambeshi has summoned 27 players for a two week assessment and the team is currently training at Independence stadium.

He is being assisted by Zanaco coach Numba Mumamba while Green Buffaloes coach Bilton Musonda has been retained to the bench and will be the second assistant.

  1. This man has failed before I implore FAZ to give chance to wedson nyirenda he is better and a true processional than chicken STUCK lwandamina.

  2. From the selection, does it mean that premier league teams have no youth teams? Now i understand why the National Team and the premier league teams are struggling. What has happened to young Nkana, young Mighty, young power, young rangers etc? We need to do more as far as youth football development is concerned.

  3. Chris Kaunda is very qualified coach – uefa B. He qualified the under 17 to the AFCON tournament – quite an achievement. Firing a guy like this for non performance related reasons is wrong. I think Kamanga and Ponga have got this one wrong. I would rather go with qualifications these days than the experience of playing football. Former footballer is not always = coach !

  4. OFF TOPIC AND ITS THE JOKE OF THE YEAR:

DARIO Bonetti says he is interested in the Chipolopolo job.

The former Chipolopolo trainer has been linked with a return to Zambia as FAZ seek an expatriate coach for the team.

In an interview from Romania where he is coaching, Bonetti said it was possible for him to come back to Zambia because he had Africa at heart.

“You know that I have Africa and the people of Africa in my heart, anything is possible,” said Bonetti when asked if he would come back to coach Chipolopolo.

Bonetti was fired by FAZ in 2011 despite meeting his contractual obligations of qualifying Chipolopolo to the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. The Italian coach filed for a compensation claim with FIFA, claiming US$1.6 million for unfair dismissal.

In April 2013, FIFA ruled that FAZ pays Bonetti US$382,000 or face sanctions, an amount that the Zambian government settled.

FAZ are currently scouting for an expatriate coach to guide the team through the 2018 World Cup qualifiers.

A number of coaches, that include French coach Philippe Troussier and former Chipolopolo trainer Patrice Beaumelle, have been linked to the job.

  5. In Zambia we always think good football is played in urban areas and only by super league teams, but that’s not the case.We have good players in rural areas who can’t prove themselves because they are never given chance to do so.Therefore,I feel this team selection shows that the net was cast wider than before. We can see players from Luapula and Northern provinces which was almost becoming a taboo in Zambian football. However,I do also have some misgivings on the coach. We give him the benefit of the doubt though.

    • Very good observation. Let us cast our nets wide
. Natural talents abound in the rural areas. All they need is technical brushing

  6. We can only settle 4 Bonetti as our last option. Otherwize let’s explore our options first. We need a coach 2 instill a winning mentality unlike the draw-lose mentality currently prevailing.

  7. mr chambeshi,or is it zambezi/luangwa?!under 20 teams of any sporting descipline is de key to its future performance coz its percievd to b a foundatn.so u cast our net wide open&don’t close de door but continue identifying de real skill/talent.we want players who can use even individual brilliance when an opponent is busy unlocking de coaches ideas.other wise, all de best &congrats.

  8. I am not sure if the Zamfoot Crews are on break or busy following UEFA Euro 2016,but we also have some soccer news worth reporting on this forum. For example, our own James Chamanga is banging in goals for fun in China and he is currently the second/third goal scorer. If you ask me I think he is way better than some players in our Chipolopolo national team.
