Copper Queens skipper Barbra Banda has been nominated for the CAF Women’s player of the year alongside compatriot Rachel Kundananji.
Banda has been fantastic for her club Orlando Pride leading them to the NWSL shield and Play offs Final.
Banda has contributed 19 goals (16 regular season, 3 play offs ) and seven assists (6 regular season, 1 play offs ) in the Pride’s record breaking season.
Kundananji also helped Bay FC qualify to the plays offs after helping them to a 7th place finish in their first NWSL season.
Banda and Kundananji also helped the Copper Queens qualify to WAFCON and the Olympics.
Banda went on to score her third hat-trick at the Olympics to become the first player to do so in Women’s Olympic Football History.
Banda is the favourite for the accolade but faces stiff competition from Malawian forwards, The Chabinga sister, Temwa and Tabitha.
Meanwhile Goalkeeper Catherine Musonda has also made the ten nominee shortlist for the goalkeeper of the year with Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie being the favourite.
The Copper Queens have been nominated for the National Women’s team of the year alongside Morocco and Morocco U-20.
Nigeria U-17, Nigeria U20 and Nigeria senior Women’s team have all been nominated. Others are Kenya U17 , Cameroon U20, Malawi and South Africa.
