Cosafa: 7 Star Zambia crush Madagascar to reach semis

The Zambia Women National team eased into the semi-finals of the regional Cosafa Cup tournament as Group A winners after they annihilated Madagascar 7 – 1 on Sunday afternoon.

Six players were on the score sheet for Zambia with Barbara Banda scoring brace that has seen the Zambian ladies set up a mouth-watering semi-final against.

Misozi Zulu opened the scores for the favorites Zambia in the 6th minute before Banda netted her brace in the 11th and 22nd minutes of the match.

Farafaniaina scored in between Banda’s goals but once the game had restarted the Albert Kachinga coached side roared into motion scoring in through Grace Chanda, Noria Sosala, Rhoda Chileshe and Rachael Nachula.

South Africa qualified to the semi-finals as group winners in Group C despite being held 1-1 by Botswana.

Hosts Zimbabwe will have to wait for other results tomorrow to confirm their qualification after being held 3-3 by Malawi in the other group match.

Zimbabwe have 5 points from three matches and must now wait to see what happens in the Group B clash on Monday between Kenya and Swaziland to advance as the best placed runners up from the pool stage.

Zambia has played 3 games, winning two (including one against Malawi) and drawing one against Zimbabwe.

The semi finals will be played on Thursday.

    • The two with Malawi were once one Country. This shows that the Muzungu sometimes thinks. There is a very close relation among the three once called Federation of N & S Rhodesia& Nyasaland…perhaps an idea that should be addressed via the the football associations just like the British teams that can be a lot better if Wales, Scotland and England played football as one Country.
