Zanaco in a pole positon for league title

Champion elect Zanaco came from behind to beat Napsa Stars 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon to move closer to a league title

And Zesco United beat Kabwe Warriors 2-0 to go second to delay Zanaco’s coronation atleast to one more game.

Though many would have loved to have the title race going to the wire, it seems it is just a matter of time for Zanaco to wrap it up.

A win for Zanaco and defeat for Zesco could have guaranteed the Sunset Stadium out fit a league title but panic gear almost erupted in Lusaka when news filtered through that Congolese born striker Idriss Mbombo had given the defending champions the league within 60 seconds of play at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.

If that wasn’t enough Zanaco was on the back foot after Enoch Mwepu silenced the crowd with a goal for Napsa Stars.

This prompted Zanaco coach Numba Mumamba to make two substitutions before the break with one of those being Ghanian striker Kwame Attram replacing Seith Sakala and the West African repaid the faith with stunning free kick to equalise.

Meanwhile in Ndola, despite being Mbombo on loan from Kabwe Warriors, he hit another goal to give CAF Champions League semi finals a two goal caution and that sent shivers to the watching crowd at Sunset Stadium.

At the end of the day, Zanaco showed championship form after they piled pressure and got the rewards with own goal and moved to 70 points while Zesco went 60 points, level with Nkana.

Zanaco and Zesco will go head to head this weekend at Heroes Stadium in the Barclays Cup final

  1. ZANACO may win the league. But this team is very useless when it comes to continental football. They should strengthen their squad by buying new players from at least from west africa. Even congolese players can do better. Then you can compete at continental level.

  2. wow exciting times in the ZPL for sure. seems Zesco just wont let up. They will keep fighting till the very end.

I can only wish Zanaco improve when they represent us on the continent. Hopefully Zesco’s strong showing at the last CAF games will give them a morale boost to believe they can make it to club world cup.

Anyways I’m still over the moon on City ya motto’s promotion.
