Zambia’s 2021 AFCON qualifying opponents Algeria are African Champions

Zambia’s Group H opponents in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers Algeria have been crowned Africa Cup of Nations champions after beating Senegal 1 – 0 in the final.

The Desert Foxes were crowned Africa Cup of Nations champions for only the second time in their history after they beat Senegal thanks to Baghdad Bounedjah’s early deflected goal.

Senegal looked like they would fight back and level matters but the North Africans defended well through out the game.

Their efforts almost paid back when referee Alioum Alioum pointed to the spot for a penalty, but he was advised to review the decision by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). He changed his mind on the decision after a second look.

Despite dominating, Algeria held on as Senegal who have never won the trophy missed out on the gold at the last hurdle.

Despite having lost at home and away to Zambia about one and a half years ago, the Foxes will play the Chipolopolo with the impetus of being champions when the two teams meet in the race to the 2021 finals in Cameroon.
