Following the reindition of the National Anthems and huge roar from the Fans, the stage was set for an epic battle to Open the CAF U20 tournament.
Nerves, pressure, expectations and demands were on the line for both teams especially the home team which has created excitement Locally following their good preparations and results to much the investment from the powers that be.
A 1-nill and 3 points will be welcome after all was said and done.
Step one is done, next will be Mali on Wednesday. The team wasn’t fully convinving but did enough to earn the three points. Considering among other Factors awareness(tactical), possesion, enginuity, application and the pressure at hand we give an assesment and rate the Young boys that made Zambia Proud with the result.
Below is how the ZamFoot Crew’s Franklyn Malambo rated the boys
1.Mangani Banda 7/10-Had little to do but Made an excellent save off a header.
Commanded his area well and calmed the situation whilst chiping away some seconds as he gave his defenders a lecture or two.
Got his distribution well at Most times and showed his experience.
2. Shemmy Mayembe 6/10- Had little to do defensively and should have done more going forward as a result. Covered a lot of ground but had no end Product to show for it. Was exposed twice when possesion was turned over and will be thankful for the cover that was provided.
3.Prosper Chiluya 7.5
For a player playing in the Fist division and Previously deputy to Boyd Mkandawire he has loads of confidence and was unfazed by the big stage. He won back possesion following some negative transitions on four occasions and joined well in the attack. Knew when to go forward and when to keep it tight. Looked like a seasoned Pro and much will be expected going foward.Looked very useful on forward adventures and solid marking.
4. Moses Nyondo 7/10- He hardly put a foot wrong but gets a 7 because at times he didnt really seem to know what to do when he had the ball at his feet: Tried to Venture forward on two occasions but over run the ball and surrendered possesion. Competed favourably aerially and showed great communication with his ccentral defensive partner. Was alway available to receive the ball and provide relief for Mangani and Solomon when Guinea pressed
5. Solomon Sakala 6.5/10- Rock solid and showed leadership from the back. Always refreshing to see a ‘ball Playing’ centre back with well measured and directed passes.Looked calm in the box and afforded himself chance to trap and distribute. Commanded his backline Mates well and a fierce competitor in the tackle. Was strong in the air and took his Man completely out of the game. Can only get better.
6. Boyd Musonda 6.5/10- A lot was expected. He failed to stamp his authority in the middle and his poor positioning made him exposed.
At times went too Much futher forwad giving too much space to guine in the middle and he was Lucky to have a hard to crack Central defense behind him.Got himself an avoidable yellow card because of failure to control the ball and tried to impress too much thereby failing to play his usual game. Must improve.
7. Fashion Sakala 5/10- One is almost tempted to think his initial position did a de-service to him. Failed to affect the game in any way and earn his mark simply for the good tracking back when required to. A poor day at the office.
8. Enock Mwepu 6/10- Fetched and carried possesion forward. Tried to be the link between defence and attack but at times dropped too Much to relieve pressure and also bail out Musonda. Was hard to disposes and was unlucky when his towering header went wide. At times released he ball too early when retention looked a better option. He will do well to play a bit higher on the pitch and make late runs into the box
9. Patson Daka 8/10-Delivered when it mattered most. Had a difficult start to the game and seemed to take matters into his own hands from the early exchanges when he surged forward and was brought down but the ref deemed it a legal challenge. Run the channels well, held up Play;involved others in the Play but should have done better 2 minutes before getting his goal when he had a chance at the near post but completely missed the ball. With all the pressure and prior misses,he did well to keep his nerve and cooly slot past the Guinea keeper for the all important goal. He looks fired Up.
10. Conlyde Luchanga 5/10- He looked good in Possesion the few times he had the ball. It was difficult to see if its his team mates that couldnt find him or he he couldnt get himself in the right spots. Did exceptionally well when he isolated himself on the right wing and went passed 3-4 defenders before squaring the ball which unfortunately wasnt pounced Upon.Looked frustrated when he was substituted and maybe his partnership with Daka still needs polishing and the Bench must make a plan to get more out of him.
11. Edward Chilufya 7/10-Had a good game but maybe not Yet known to Many Fans..if he continues this way,He’ll be famous by Youth day: Unlucky to have both his goals ruled off for offside especially the 2nd goal. Put in a wonderful shif, encouraged the quick interchange and link up play. Tracked back when called Upon and took on the opposition defenders bravely:
SUBSTITUTES- Emmanuel Banda- 8/10– Came on as 1st half substitute but did enough to be My Man of the Match.
Assisted Patson’s goal, had a shot that went narrowly wide;Missed a header and completely changed the game and brought with him hunger, belief and assurance. Moved exceptionally well Box to Box and put up his hand for a starting position on Match day 2 for Zambia. Looked comfortable on the ball and did what substitues are xpected to do:.change games, turn matches on their heads and restore belief

All players deserves 9/10.
Why be negative? We all know how to watch soccer, this analysis is typical of putting others down. Next time watch with a positive heart.
Both Zambia and Guinea played an exciting game.
easy Nostra, luchanga had a bad day in the office, so i dont think that he deserves the 9 u give him.
Cool down my man if all of them players including Guinea performed 9/10 why do we need to substitute some players, what kind of logic is that? Secondly, if Guinea also played 9/10 why did they lose!? That simply shows that regardless Guinea giving us a good game someone in their ranks played at 4/10! Simple.
Come on you Chipolopolo we want some more.
Technical blunder costed luchanga’s performance . Why how can you play with three natural strikers on the pitch.. Patson, fashion and luchanga..
Thanks for the analysis. Very happy Zambia won. I hope we win against Mali too and book a spot before the final group game.
Playing the first game for the hosts in front of your fans at a stadium filled to capacity is always difficult coz expectations are high. Before we go on to rate the boys, let’s see how they fare in the second game. These games are high tempo ones and a one nil score-line is fare, for the hosts.
Very good vinkubala
good ratings wish the players could find time to read so that they aim to perfom well in the next game. Go zambia go. We are going to the world to do some wandas as it were in 1988
The rating was missed Kenneth came with a force I can’t see him in the picture
TC Soccerman…….”tuckets sold to Kaponyas…. the same old movie”? what does this phrasing imply TC? can u clear the air for the sake of GURU… naming names for good measure!
@Slim, Meaning it used to happen back in the day, not only during Kalu’s admin, but even before and if it continues that Kamanga and his admin don’t do anything to avoid the same things from happening with regards to tickets going to Kaponyas is bulks while common Citizens are left to buy those same tickets at higher price on a black market, then it will be same old stuff happening as before, hence same as watching the same old movie play again. Does that make sense now?
I like this young goalkeeper by the name of mangani banda he seem cool and stable he commanded his defenders very well and he look steady he need to be natured. now I expect useless players like adrian chama, jack chirwa, mkandiwire, chepeshi to be dropped completely to the national team some players like solomon sakala, mwepu, prosper chilufya and that boy who scored the third goalshould be graduated to the senior national team.any way our focuss at the moment is the game against mali because if we beat mali will qualify to the world cup
When we beat Mali I expect you to congratulate Kamanga for sending the boys to technically superior Spain!
@Prince, “congratulate Kamanga” good with that.
Good luck..meant to say.
I Did not watch the game, but from the comments above and else where, it sounds like the boys accounted themselves very well and kudos to them and the coaching staff. Good luck in the next game and I will make sure I catch that one. I read with sadness at the fact that some people were unable to get tickets on time, worse yet, they bought tickets from Kaponyas on price 4x the face value. That is not good as people should not be messing around with other people’s hard earned money. I am going to assume that most fans/people in Zambia are in a capacity to plan/budget and purchase tickets for these international games on time, let alone a tournment like this. With that said, FAZ, Kamanga and Ponga need to switch on and put in place the ability to sale tickets online through FAZ site. Say for example, a Thomas out there would go and create their ticket purchasing account on FAZ site that will have a paypal plug in(very secure) then will enter their information and payments. If they want the ticket to be delivered, then pay a small shipping/delivery fee. I am a sole believer that people will go to with route than getting screwed at a last minute as some have complained at paying K80 for a K20 ticket. Faz should have also distributed/sale of tickets 1 month – 2 weeks before the tourn started with a limit on the number of tickets sold to one individual, then if there a lot of tickets remaining close to the tournment then they could dish them out to the Kaponyas at the time(knowing that atleast everyone had a chance and enough time to purchase the tickets on time and a fair value, not be screwed at last minute. Unless Kamanga and his crooks are getting a cut from these Kaponyas, then expect the same old same movie again. Just a thought.
Well spoken and brilliant idea…indeed it works very well here and not only for football but concerts etc…but in your penultimate sentence you state that Kamanga is a criminal…can you kindly elaborate on that?
Just an expression, in my world, the only person I trust is me.Kinda self centered I get it, but that that’s how it is, unless someone proves me wrong then I view them differently. Kamanga has not nyunyad FAZ atleast to our knowledge, so I still give the benefit of doubt, but people complaining about tickets going to Kaponyas just don’t seem right to me.
I see…quite unfair to assure everyone is dishonest…but again that is me thinking aloud…FAZ need to improve especially when people have tickets and find the stadium full…
just one win ninshi twacita qualify Ku world cup
PRINCE I’m a sports man if the team manage to beat mali tomorrow I will be the first one to congrates kamanga and his team togther with the technical bench.I think we stand a good chance to win this cup in the sense that we have a good team the boys should improve in the midfield area they seem to be losing balls easily I also wish to agree with what TC has said on tickets FAZ should avoid a siutation were by one kaponya is buying 30 tickets
Well spoken my good sir…Mali is a tall order but we are Chipolopolo at home!!
Mali gave Chipolopolo a good game. How ever, they could not equalise because they faced a very good team.
Yes we have the 12th play so home ground advantage will work in our favour but our boys should not be complacent they should take each game one at a time we need to beat mali so that the last game can be a formality
What was worrying was that they seemed to grow cold feet and make mistakes nga chaweleketa. They are yet to get used to such large crowds, but I am sure by the next game, they will have recovered and adapted.
Zamfoot why no updates?it’s soccer feaster and you have gone to sleep
