Defending champions Zambia will take on Malawi in the final of the 2025 COSAFA U17 Girls’ Championship on Saturday after both teams sealed semi-final victories on Friday in Windhoek, Namibia.
Malawi booked their spot in the final with a narrow 1-0 win over Mozambique in the second semi-final played at the Hage Geingob Stadium.
Talandira Kachala was the hero for the young Scorchers, scoring the decisive goal in the 84th minute to hand her side a historic place in the final.
The Copper Princesses had earlier secured an emphatic 5-1 victory over Zambezi rivals Zimbabwe in the first semi-final.
Goals from Natasha Kasema (brace), Hellen Misozi Banda, Grace Phiri and Beatrice Njobvu ensured Zambia’s fifth straight appearance in the final of the regional tournament.
Zambia heads into Saturday’s final aiming for a record third COSAFA U17 crown. The Princesses lifted the title in 2021 and again in 2024.
Malawi, on the other hand, will be contesting their first final, with their previous best finish being a bronze medal on home soil in 2022.
The final will be played at 14h00 at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek and will be preceded by the third-place playoff between Zimbabwe and Mozambique, scheduled for 11h00 at the same venue.
