Wydad Casablanca of Morocco have maintained top spot in Group A of the CAF Champions League group stage despite being held to a 0 – 0 draw by tail-enders Al Ahly.
Egyptians giants Al Ahly who have struggled at this stage of the competition picked only their first point in this game but the point was enough to hand the Moroccan side some day-light as they went to 7 points with their closest rivals Zesco United on 6 points at the half way mark of the group stage.
Zambian champions Zesco United were anxiously waiting for the result in Egypt after they easily despatched Asec Mimosa of Ivory Coast with a 3 – 1 victory in Ndola.
In the next round of matches, Zesco United will be away against third placed Asec Mimosa who have three points in Ivory Coast while Wydad Casablanca host Al Ahly on Wednesday, 27th July.

With only one more home game remaining against leaders Casablanca, the George Lwandamina coached side will have to pick a result in Ivory Coast to keep the hopes of qualifying to the semi finals alive.

Grind out a result in Abidjan with an eye of winning the match. Asec can be dismantled in Ivory Coast on a one goal project.
Given singuluma to be recalled to national team for world cup qualifiers and chamanga. let use strikers who are in good form at their clubs. we need results.
@ General is that an official statement or just thot coz we dont have a coach in place as of now. Yes we need these guys even Mayuka and Jacob but lets wait.
Rumour has it that Rafa Benitez is one of the candidates. We’ll see!
IYE RAFA
pwahahaha goodnight dreamers
Keep going ZESCO …just a need one good away result!
I’m a little confused now. Watching the Zesco game there was some serious passing and well coordinated passing and attacking build-up. How come George is not able to replicate this when he coaches the national team?
Big Steve. I respect you for your knowledge in soccer and so I will be very careful not sound as if am reacting to your comment. But one thing I have learnt about soccer is that gelling is critical to making any team successful. These ZESCO players have been together for some time now except one or two players. Gelling adds the cream to what the coach tells the players and thats what creates the brilliance that fans remember. The Chipolopolo that we`ve been subjected to which has never gelled since 2012. Everything we`ve been watching is Chipante- pante with few instances of individual brillence, and no team has won tournaments with that kind of play and thats why the call is for development of lower leagues so that by the time these guys are called to the national team, they will not only have individual brilliance but also gelling will be easy as they would have played together or with one another a number of times. BRAVO ZEGA!
I would say even the employment of foreign players ahs added value and class to the zesco squad. They have a good player in each position with the bench stuffed with equally good players whose entry is no let off to the opposition. The aspect of being together for along time is also critical, look at how often we change our squad at national leveln when we can easily have two good players for each position. where are the likes of Bruce Musakanya, Chaila, Mtonga, – they even failed to make the cosafa squad ! there has been no consistency at national level.
Zesco has a lot of quality in the team and George is also known for building such teams. When he was at Red Arrows this was exactly how Red arrows played and the inclusion of foreigners has made the team very competitive.
KEAGAN Chipango says Zambia’s dwindling football fortunes can only be salvaged by delinking the Super League from FAZ to attract private investors as the case is with English clubs.
Last week, Zambia dropped from 79th place in the world on the FIFA rankings to 88th, and from 20 to 23 in Africa, mainly attributed to a recent poor string of results where Chipolopolo failed to qualify to the 2017 AfCON and also performed badly in the regional COSAFA tournament in Namibia.
Chipango, a former FAZ executive committee member, said there was an urgent need to separate the Super League from the control of the Football Association of Zambia in order to attract investment into the clubs.
“We want a separate professional league. If Zambia is to make it to the [2018] World Cup, and for Zambia to become an authority in African football, and for Zambia to be recognised worldwide, there is need for us to go in that direction. We need to separate the Super League from the influence of FAZ,” Chipango said in an interview.
He said the separation of the Super League would work for Zambia as it was working in countries such as South Africa and Zimbabwe.
“Look at England! Are the British the ones investing in those teams – Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool? It is the Asian Tigers, those rich guys from the Asian bloc, they are the major shareholders. Americans have also invested in there, but you see, the English are enjoying the smiles. Even for the Zambian league, those guys can be convinced to buy these clubs from Africa and use them as nurseries and get the best players,” said Chipango.
Nigeria has hired a new foreign technical adviser PAUL LE GUEN
The deal fail through as corrupt Nigeria can’t pay the foreign coach. What an embarrassment for an oil rich country. Useless corrupt people. You can’t afford a foreign coach, too much 419.
Nigeria have appointed Frenchman Paul Le Guen to lead their qualifying campaign for the 2018 World Cup, where they are drawn in a difficult group along with Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia.
Former Cameroon coach Le Guen was chosen ahead of Belgian Tom Sainfiet and Salisu Yusuf, who has been the country’s caretaker coach since May.
“Paul Le Guen has been appointed Nigeria new coach and he will be assisted by Yusuf and Imma Amakapabo of Enugu Rangers,” announced technical committee member Paul Bassey, who added that contract details will be decided soon.
He led Cameroon to the 2010 World Cup and has coached top French clubs Lyon and Paris Saint Germain, as well as Scottish side Rangers, with his last job being with Oman, who sacked him in November 2015 after a difficult start to their World Cup qualifying tournament.
Le Guen has officially been named as the technical adviser of the team, with Yusuf one of his assistants in the role of chief coach.
The 52-year-old has been linked with the Nigeria post for several months after Sunday Oliseh walked out on the Super Eagles in February, following what the former Nigeria skipper claimed were several breaches to his contract, including the non-payment of his salary for several months.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have assured a regular payment of the new coach’s salary, believed to be about $50,000 a month, as it will be covered by a private company after the government said it would not bankroll it.
The immediate task for Le Guen, who led Lyon to three Ligue 1 titles between 2002 and 2005, is to help the Super Eagles qualify for a sixth World Cup, beginning in October with a tricky visit to Zambia.
The coach takes over a team that failed in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying for the second successive time in March.
The three-time African champions are now 70th in the FIFA rankings.
Uh not so fast my friend.
Countries tht r serious coach ni fast fast. Our beloved Zambia wait up2 injury time to make decisions coz thrz no update apart frm the “govt has no money 4 a foreign coach” news.#JstWondering

No more FAZ bashing stories on ZAMFOOT since there is now Mr. cool who is on top of things at FOOTBALL HOUSE.We can go up to two weeks with no new stories.May be someone has to remind them that they can try analyzing our drop on the FIFA rankings like in the good old days of FAZ bashing or perhaps even headline how corruption has caused us not to get a new coach!Funny hoe easy it is to throw stones when you are not covered by a glass!
