The Eden University Women’s Super League kicked off last weekend with some exciting matches taking place across the country.

The ZamFoot Crew now looks at which players impressed in the games over the weekend.

Elsewhere it was Ruth Ngoma winning it for ZANACO Ladies against Nchanga Rangers Queens while Mercy Chipasula was in her element setting up three goals in the 6-2 bashing of ZISD Women.

ZAMFOOT BEST XI

GK; Mary Nyangu GK (YASA Queens) – The Zambia U17 Women’s National Team goalkeeper denied Green Buffaloes a win at Queensmead with fantastic saves including a late finger tip save to deny Hellen Chanda the winner.

She was the difference and the main reason YASA Queens kept a clean sheet against the Zambia army sponsored outfit.

Mary Nyangu

LB: Jane Mulenga (Indeni Roses)- Jane Mulenga put on a fantastic shift at leftback as Indeni Roses saw off National Assembly by a lone goal scored by Ngosa Chabwe.

RB: Rhoda Nakanyika ( YASA Queens)- The former Luyando Foundation Girls player came up big on the day stopping a number of attacks on the wings. She made sure players Agness Phiri was not so effective on the day.

CB; Precious Nsama (Nkwazi Queens) – The former Zambia U20 Women’s National Team defender and captain of the side was important to stop Elite Ladies threats as Nkwazi Queens cruised to a narrow 1-0 win.

CB; Precious Kaluba Mwape ( Luyando Foundation Girls) – The Copper Princesses defender was again at the heart of defense for Luyando Foundation Girls in the 1-0 loss to Green Eagles.

Despite the loss Mwape was important to keeping the scoreline narrow stopping threats from Natasha Nkaka, Cindy Banda and Rachel Moono.

DMF: Regina Chanda (ZANACO Ladies)- The ZANACO Ladies midfielder, initially an attack minded player but on Saturday she played deeper as a defensive midfielder and was key to making Mapalo Maluba and Gracious Tailoshi ineffective on the day. She won most battles in the middle of the park and would usually sprint forward to offer support in attack.

CM;Mary Mukupa (Red Arrows Women)- The Young Copper Queens midfielder had a brilliant game for the Airwomen on the middle of the park alongside Bupe Banda.

Mukupa was also on hand to score the first goal as Arrows beat Konkola Blades Queens 2-0.

CM:Mercy Chipasula (Kamfinsa Police Blue Eagles)- The Copper Princesses’ star player was in her element as she set up three goals in Kamfisa Police Blue Eagles 6-2 win over ZISD Women.

She was simply unplayable on the day- easily our best player of the week.

LW:Tendai Sani (ZISD)- The Malawian international scored a brace on her debut for ZISD Women.

Despite the team’s huge loss she showed her class and got two important goals to start her life in the Eden University Women’s Super League.

RW; Namakau Mwangala  (Kamfisa Police Blue Eagles)- Namakau Mwangala showed her composure in front of goal scoring a hat-trick for Kamfisa Police Blue Eagles in their win over ZISD.

She becomes the first player to score a treble this season in the Women’s Super League. She is just two goals shy of her total tally for last season which was five.

CF: Ruth Ngoma (ZANACO Ladies)- Former Chipata Girls striker Ruth Ngoma scored a brace to guide ZANACO Ladies to a 2-1 win over Nchanga Rangers Queens.

This was Ngoma’s debut for ZANACO Ladies and she looked like a player who has been around for a long time.

Last season she netted 14 goals for Kamfinsa Police Blue Eagles.

The Coach of the week goes to Florence Mwila of ZANACO Ladies for masterminding a win over Charity Nthala of Nchanga Rangers Queens -both former Copper Queens assistant coaches and currently coaching the Zambia U20 Women’s National Team together.

Notable mentions: Ngosa Chabwe, Martha Katila Banda, Hellen Mukuka, Rosemary Nyirongo, Astridah Pupe, Bupe Banda and Ruth Muwowo also had good games for their respective teams.
