Chipolopolo head coach Avram Grant has roped in former Israel U-21 boss Marco Bulbul as his assistant coach.
The 55 year old will be an assistant to Grant together with Chipolopolo legend Moses Sichone.The ZamFoot Crew now digs into the man who will be Chipolopolo number two and answers the Question who is Bulbul ?
The former Maccabi Tel Aviv player is a well known coach in his homeland having coached a number of topflight clubs including the National Team.
Marco Balbul began his coaching career at the Israeli club Maccabi Haifa in 2002 where he worked as an assistant manager until 2005 before switching to Maccabi Netanya where he spent two years.
He had a spell at Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 2008/09 season before being appointed head coach of Bnei Sakhnin for the 2009/10 season.In 2011 he took charge of the Petah Tikva senior team.
Bulbul’s only stint outside Israel was in 2012 when he worked as Serbian club FK Partizan Belgrade’s assistant manager.
Balbul has also been associated with the Israeli U21 National Team; serving as the manager of the U21 side between 2016 and 2018.
He led the Israeli U21 team in seventeen games, winning seven and losing four matches in the Euro U21 Qualifiers.
Marco returned to Maccabi Haifa for his second first-team managerial stint at the club. Under his charge from 2018 to 2020, the team won 40 out of the 60 games the team played while drawing 12 matches and losing the other 13 matches.
He was also at the helm of the Israel National team from 2021 as an assistant manager, which he left in February 2022 before joining NorthEast United FC in August last year.Bulbul is expected to bring his vast knowledge to the game and help Grant take back Chipolopolo to the Africa Cup of Nations having missed the last three editions.
Zambia hosts the Likuena on March 23 at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola before squaring off three days later in Johannesburg at Dobsonville Stadium.
