We will forget this match’ – Zambia U20 coach Chisi Mbewe

Young Copper Bullets boss Chisi Mbewe has rallied his charges to forget Friday’s disappointing 2-0 defeat to Gambia in the TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations and focus on their next game.

Zambia are yet to win in Group C following their 2-2 draw with Benin before losing the group winners Gambia in Alexandria.

The Young Scorpions dominated possession and the chances at the El Hodoud Stadium in the penultimate fixture.

Kajally Drammeh scored midway through the second half to put Abdoulie Bojang’s boys in front before Alagie Saine converted a late spot kick to put the game to bed.

“I am very frustrated, we never got into this match,” a disappointed Mbewe said.

“We lacked cohesion and tactical discipline. In modern football if you lack momentum, you pay dearly,” Mbewe added.

“We will forget this match and put our focus on the match of Tunisia.

“If we win, we will be a quarterback, we have to keep that in mind.”

Zambia hosted and won the 2017 TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations but failed to qualify for the 2019 and 2021 editions in Niger and Mauritania.

  1. This is where Kamanga is failing to realise that as FAZ president his KPAs are perfomance of mens U20s, U23s and main Chipos! The selection has been monopolised by academy owners, infusing their boys in the youth teams, with a view to get the foreign scouts pick them for lucrative contracts overseas. Its a crying shame when the players are devoid of any experience in the top three leagues in the country! The entire sojourn is a lamentable failure casting doubt on Kamanga’s abilities to improve soccer in our nation.

If the coaching staff & technical bench cannot motivate the lads then its over. So far the bench has demonstrated that it is Clueless, has no Hope, is Inept of meaningful confidence to Showcase the football that won COSAFA therefore we are Irrelevant at continental level.

  3. @Slim and @BSimmz I agree with you guys 100%.

Gambia had players from Spain, Angola….. Zambia says we can’t bring players from Europe because this is not a FFIA calendar tournament. Our boys have been exposed by other teams with players playing at a higher level in European Youth teams. FAZ never made any effort to get more players from Europe thinking the team had depth.

  4. @Slim “FAZ never made any effort to get more players from Europe thinking the team had depth.” I agree with you . This opinion has degraded our soccer
