YASA Queens on Saturday afternoon returned to winning ways after convincingly defeating National Assembly 3-nil in a local derby while BUSA held ZESCO Ndola Girls to a 1-1 draw.
Meanwhile Queens Academy, The Royal Girls edged Mufulira Wanderers 2-1 in the 2022/23 FAZ Women’s Super Division Match Week 24 encounters.
YASA Queens who have had a tough start this year avenged their 1-nil first round defeat as they silenced National Assembly 3-nil in an exciting match played at NAPSA Sports Complex.
Thanda Onneila Mokgabo put YASA in the lead in the opening 17 minutes with a good flick on header benefiting from a pass from Mellisa Mataba.
Mataba then turned from provider to goal scorer as she added the second goal from a well taken free kick leaving Milika Banda with no chance just at the stroke of half time.
After the resumption, Assembly felt they would come back into the game with an early change, Tukiya Mufishi coming on for Christine Zimba but The Stubborn YASA were equal to the task and the tactical changes made by Coach Tafara Phiri introducing Adnelly Sakala, Christine Nyirongo and Eunice Bwalya for Harriet Matipa, Emeldah Kasonde and Evelyn Mwamba paid off.
Assembly rested their goalkeeper Milika Banda in the 69th minute for debutant Ruth and 6 minutes later Adnelly Sakala added the icing on the cake with a third goal from a Thanda pass to take her total tally of goals to 7 this season and despite some more changes made by Assembly bringing on Ruth Balela, Fattness Phiri and Susan Mwansa for Grace Nachula, Grace Mulaisho and Natasha Mulenga respectively nothing positive was recorded.
YASA also introduced Blessings Zimba for Natasha Mubanga and Margaret Mubanga in place of Elina Chanda to cement the lead and that was enough for the Stubborn YASA to win bragging rights over The Parliamentarians with a 3-nil victory.
Elsewhere, ZESCO Ndola Girls were held to a second successive draw by BUSA Queens with a 1-1 scoreline at Trade Fair Ground in Ndola.
ZESCO who are still third on the table scored through Penelope Mulubwa while Margaret Chisenga scored from the penalty spot for BUSA Queens who are now out of relegation Zone and look like a team that can survive the chopping board with 10 rounds of games remaining.
Meanwhile, Queens Sports Academy got back to winning ways as they defeated struggling Mufulira Wanderers Women Football Club 2-1 at ZNS Rugby Ground in Kabwe.
A brace from Zambia Women’s Under-20 National Team striker Agness Phiri was enough for the Royal Girls to complete a double over Abena Milambo Ladies.
