Power Dynamos coach Perry Mutapa says the country should not support mediocrity after his former player Alex Ng’onga came out hero in an entertaining Kitwe Derby yesterday.
Goals from Diamond Chikwekwe and Ng’onga either side of the halftime gave Nkana an important win in their quest to beat relegation.
Ng’onga, who had a fallout with Mutapa at Power, terminated his contract to move to their worst rivals across the road and returned to haunt his former coach.
“It doesn’t hurt, I think this is his second goal this season. In a season, I don’t remember him scoring 10 goals as a striker. But this one goal, the team or technical bench will be put under pressure that the player you sent away has scored one goal, he is supposed to score more than 15 goals. But we support mediocrity, he scored one goal, he is the hero of the town, the hero of Zambia. I don’t know maybe he is going to be a hero in the newspapers but for me, I don’t want to talk about that,” Mutapa said.
He further said despite the defeat, Power was superior in application of the game and still in contention for a top four finish.
“In terms of application I still believe we are better than Nkana. But Nkana utilised their opportunities. I think we had opportunities to score which we didn’t convert. But we had more chances than them and that has been our undergoing at Power Dynamos. We create a lot of chances but we are not punishing the other teams,” he said.
Nkana coach Beston Chambeshi was elated with the win saying it could be a turnaround of fortunes for the team as they aim to beat relegation.
TIMES OF ZAMBIA

Just accept you made a blunder. Of your strikers how many have scored even just five goals?
Perry should accept that mediocrity could be either way. In the day, clearly Bazo had more heart for the win and the coach should accept that he lost fair and square
Coach Perry must accept the truth, he has strikers that don’t score most of the goals power has scored this season has been scored by either midfielders or defenders. he didn’t play Bazo yet wants him to score 15 goals, from where, the bench?
On placing Perry on leave and letting Masauso take charge, in my opinion the change won’t be seen as the two are the same, the best would have been to let the two go and let George Chilufya take over.
I liked Perry in his days as an active player. It hurts me to hear him being a bad and bitter loser. Man up babPerry. You
I liked Perry in his days as an active player. It hurts me to hear him being a bad and bitter loser. Man up ba Perry. You lost. Just accept and plan for the next game. There are a number of players who became heroes because of one goal. E. G Torres at Chelsea scored a goal against Barcelona in the semi finals of UEAFA. Elder scored one goal against France in Euro final
Mutapa should just leave Ng’onga alone, just because he used to bench him out that does not mean Ng’onga couldn’t score
How can a striker or any player score goals when he is always on the bench mr coach? You just don’t like the player finish you have to be ashamed of yourself.
Perry you can make a very good coach but remember having squabbles with players is the downfall of a coach, so instead build a player to the level where you want them to be. What has happened to you is a derailment but just step on and move forward and time will vindicate you.
