Wanderers Stun ZESCO, ZANACO Edge Nkwazi to Boost Top-Five Push

ZANACO FC and Mufulira Wanderers both climbed one place on the MTN Super League log after crucial victories on Sunday, as Week 21 produced defining moments at both ends of the table.

ZANACO edged Nkwazi 1-0 in a tightly contested encounter settled by Araina Lambert’s second-half strike. After a cagey opening period in which chances were at a premium, Lambert broke the deadlock in the 54th minute, capitalising on sustained pressure to hand the Bankers a vital three points.

The win lifts ZANACO into fourth place, strengthening their push for a strong finish in the top tier and keeping them within touching distance of the teams above them. For Nkwazi, it was a frustrating afternoon as their resilience was undone by a single decisive moment.

Elsewhere, Mufulira Wanderers produced one of the standout performances of the weekend, claiming an impressive 2-1 away victory over ZESCO United. The visitors stunned their hosts early on when Joseph Tembwe struck in the fourth minute to set the tone. John Foloko doubled the advantage in the 33rd minute, silencing the home crowd and putting Wanderers firmly in control at the break.

ZESCO responded late through Amine Hiver, who pulled one back in the 82nd minute to set up a tense finale. But Wanderers held firm under pressure to secure maximum points — a result that sees them climb into fifth place on the standings.

In the day’s other fixture, FC Leopards and Konkola Blades shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Kelvin Mavinga gave Leopards the lead in the 26th minute, only for Boyd Musonda to convert an 88th-minute penalty to rescue a point for Blades.
