Zesco United head coach Emmanuel Siwale says his side will not distracted by their past spell of underwhelming results but rather focus on facing each new challenge at hand.
Goals from newly signed Ghanaian striker Elvis Bernard Addae and talismanic Chadian Amine Hiver propelled the Ndola giants to a 2-1 win over Zanaco this afternoon at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.
Victory in today’s rescheduled Week 17 MTN Super League fixture saw Siwale’s charges secure their place in this year’s edition of the ABSA Cup edition being title holders.
Speaking to journalists after today’s encounter, Siwale expressed delight at his side’s spirited performance to secure a hard-fought victory and ABSA Cup qualification.
”The boys put up a fight even more that we expected because when that rains came it was even more difficult but we fought and got the winning goal for which I’m very happy with the boys especially that we managed to achieve what we wanted,” Siwale told reporters.
Having been eliminated from the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, Siwale further indicated that the nine-time Zambian champions will aim to rekindle their fortunes by solely focusing on taking up each new challenge that arises with the league as well as ABSA Cup titles still up for grabs.
“I’ll not talk about the games we have not played because this is a journey and we will take each game as it comes. Our focus today has shifted to Mufulira Wanderers and that is where our target is and we will concentrate on it,” he said.
After today’s victory, Zesco have moved into 11th spot on the Super League table with 25 points with three matches in hand and face Mufulira Wanderers on Sunday at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
