U17 National Team preparations taking shape

The Zambia under-17 Men’s National Team played their second practice match in a space of 24 hours on Wednesday afternoon.

The team has heightened preparations for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations that kicks off on April 29.

Ian Bakala’s side played to a 1-1 draw with City of Lusaka after suffering a 4-1 loss to NAPSA Stars on Tuesday.

NAPSA Stars boss Perry Mutapa was left impressed with what he saw from the Junior Chipolopolo and the team continued with more of the same on Wednesday.

In a Friendly played over 90 minutes in 3 parts of 30 minutes each monitored by the ZamFoot Crew, the boys looked sharp and coordinated.

At the back Sekanji Siame, a Sporting Lusaka defender on loan at Konkola Blades looked sharp alongside Charles Kampamba of Sate Sate Academy and David Hamansenya.

Skipper Aaron Mbemba Phiri brought his usual energy and  Samson Malaya was imposing with Marcel Zimba and Emmanuel Mwanza looking lively all afternoon.

The team is expected to travel to Tunisia this weekend where they could play at least two friendly matches before jetting into Algeria.

The junior Chipolopolo will be based in Constantine and will compete with Nigeria, Morocco and South Africa in the group of death.

The tournament will run from 29 April to 19 May 2023.

The top four sides in the competition will qualify for the 2023 Under-17 World Cup which will be staged in Peru from Nov. 10-Dec. 2.
