Newly Promoted Zambia Super League side Trident FC has released eight players ahead of the start of the new season.
Former Zanaco midfielder Portipher Zulu leads the list of players released by the North Western based outfit.
Others are former Nkana striker Djunese Kanda, Francis Mashingini, Kelvin Chachinka and Weston Kunda.
The club is expected to bring in new players to strengthen the side before the start of the 2023/2024 MTN Super League season.
“Trident Football Club wishes to inform its supporters and stakeholders that the Club has officially released eight (8) players in a restructuring aimed at reinforcing the team ahead of the 2023/2024 Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) MTN Super League season.”
Trident Football Club Chief Executive Officer, Mvula Mangulenje says undertakings are being made to ensure the nucleus of the Trident FC squad is strengthened in areas where the team requires quality replacements ahead of the elite league.
“The players released are, Dickson Chizoma, Clive Njavera, Djunese Kanda, Abdel Salam, Portipher Zulu, Francis Mashingini, Kelvin Chachinka and Weston Kunda.While Alex Mukosha, Renard Phiri, Steven Ricardo and Eden Chikaba through theTechnical Committee have been released to join clubs on loan in the interest of giving playing time and development,” Mvula said.
“We wish to thank the aforementioned players for the wonderful service rendered to this Club and we can only wish them the best of luck in their future endeavours.”
“At the same time, we urge our supporters to remain calm as the club works hard to implement strategies that will allow the club to perform to the expected demands of the new division,” he added.
The Kalumbila based side won the 2022/2023 FAZ National Division One League with 62 points.
The 2023/24 MTN Super League season will open on August 19 with the Black Label Charity Shield set to kick things rolling on August 12th.
