Tanzanian side Simba sack Patrick Phiri

Former Zambia coach Patrick Phiri has left his job as Simba coach after less than 10 months in-charge of the job.

This was the soft spoken coach’s third spell at the Tanzanian outfit.

“Unless, some of the officials learn to draw a line between technical bench matters and their routine duties at the club, Simba will continue to experience a stuttering performance both locally and at the international level,” the former Nkana coach was quoted in one of the local tabloids.

Phiri had successful stints in 2008 and 2010 when he guided them to league titles but was sacked after he failed to make an impact in the CAF Champions League.

This year he was lured to Dar el Salem from Namibia where he was hired as technical director after he quit as Napsa Stars coach.

He was in-charge of Zambia in 2004 but his side failed to qualify for AFCON but redeemed himself when he qualified to the 2008 edition though the team bowed in the first round.

The former Lusaka Dynamos coach made his name when he qualified the Zambia Under-20 side comprising of Gift Kampamba, Nsofwa Chaswe, Emmanuel Zulu, Andrew Sinkala, Ian Bakala, Kampamba Chintu and Mulife Sitali to the 1999 World Youth Championship in Nigeria.

  1. Some of these clubs are jokers. The way they treated him like king when they hired him, only to be sacked 10 months later. Sxmhm!!!

  2. I expected this because, at the time he resigned from Napsa, Napsa was doing badly and he just took the initiative to resign in order to avoid being sacked. He ought to have known better that there was no guarantee of him replicating his earlier performance at the same club. Professor Ante Buselic took Zambia to its maiden Afcon final in 1974 but is now tired of his sustained failure to help Ndola United (club level) to win promotion to the top Zambian league. Overall, diminishing marginal returns seems to have set in him as he is slowly but surely sliding to below average coach, based on his recent poor performance wherever he had been.

  3. The Golden rule in football is never go back.Am not surprised coach phiri was sacked because he hasn’t improved his tactics he is still stuck in the early 2000s 4-3-3. Was very lucky to have qualified chipolopolo to that disasterious Afcon aswell was all down to the players chris,Jacob and ian bakala to name a few

    • Indeed Jacob, Chris, and Bakala (latter two being “midgets”) were given chance at that time which we want to deny “midgets” now-do i sense double standards here?>

  4. Patrick Phiri has no strong back born who apply old tactics style of player. Soccer has evolved in recent years. Coaching job needs intelligence. You can be a holder of A class License without that intelligence its a flop
