Super Jacob Banda earns himself Efford Chabala comparison

Zesco United coach George ‘Chicken’ Lwandamina was full of praise for his captain and first choice goalkeeper Jacob Banda following his performance in Zesco United’s one all draw against TP Mazembe. Spider Man as Jacob is fondly referred to was compared to the great Efford David Chabala by his coach.

Lwandamina played with Chabala at Mighty Mufulira wanderers . The former Chipolopolo boss also reminded the public that he was the same player they had showered with insults everytime he had a bad game.

” Jacob Banda has experience . Yes he is human and has played when he was off form and you called him names but today he played very well and you praising him today. He rose to the occasion today,” he said.

” I played with Efford Chabala at Mufulira Wanderers. When all other players on the pitch would be off form he would rise to theoccasion and save the situation even at National team because he had that experience same as Jacob,” he added.

Lwandamina is hoping the support shown to Jacob after his heroics continues. He stressed that goalkeepers were like wine and got better with age.

“He had his good day and kudos are coming from you people. I just hope you can continue praising him. Goalkeepers are like wine they get better with time, ” he said.

The great David Efford Chabala was Zambia’s first choice goalkeeper from 1983 until his death in a plane crash off the Gabonese coast in 1993.

Chabala was instrumental in Zambia’s first ever East and Central African Championship success when he saved three penalties in Zambia’s 3–0 shoot-out victory over Malawi in the 1984 final in Uganda after a goalless draw at full-time. He was named Zambia’s Sportsman of the Year in 1985.

  1. Awe naimwe ba Lwandamina Jacob likula! Just because he served a penalty
and you start to compare him with Chabala!!!? What a Joke! Jacob Banda is easily beatable. Just get videos and look at the many goals he concedes. A perfect example is when ZESCO played LIBOLO of Angola last season in Luanda. Couldn’t even afford to dive!

  2. Jacob Banda compared to late Effrod Chabala is a HUGE mismatch. Efford was unbelievable in goal. Good shot stopper, amazing distribution ether with hands or feet, one of the best penalty stoppers. He could play as a striker and was better than most outfield players. Saw him play as striker a couple of times he was amazing. He was a HALL OF FAME player without a doubt.
Jacob is very ordinary, no disrespect to him he is miles behind the Late E.Chabala. Atase ba Lwadamina
