Power go top, Zanaco humiliate Buffaloes

Power Dynamos have shot to the top of the FAZ Super League after they beat Nakambala Leopards 1- 0 in Mazabuka to overtake Green Eagles on goal difference.

Power have now collected a maximum nine out of nine points and they will have to thank Jimmy Ndhlovu who made no mistake when he pounced on a rebound after Chris Munthali’s long range shot came off the woodwork.

Power have now scored 7 goals in three games and conceded none.

In Lusaka Zanaco humiliated Green Buffaloes who they whacked 3 – 0 at home in a game U20 international Charles Zulu scored a brace.

Zulu opened the scores in the first half with a solo run and he completed his brace in the second half after he scored with an assist from substitute Emmanuel Phiri.

Phiri then turned scorer at the end of the match to add pressure on Buffaloes coach Wedson Nyirenda whose team has now only won once in three games to drop deep into relegation zone.

At Nkoloma Stadium, National Assembly came from behind to win 2 – 1 against hosts Red Arrows.

Bruce Musakanya gave Arrows the lead a few minutes into the game but Assembly did not drop their tempo as they continued to press their hosts throughout the game with Arrows reduced to playing on the counter-attack.

Arrows could have put the game beyond the reach of Assembly when Daniel Sibanda played a sweet through ball for Francis Kombe whose neat shot was well saved on the edge of the area by the advancing Robert Mwanza in goal.

Arrows again had a clear chance on goal when a Benedict Chepeshi cross found Musakanya at the back post who unfortunately shot straight at the keeper.

A quick restart by the Mwanza caught the Charles Siyingwa marshaled defense out of position and the final ball of the counter attack found a free Gift Lukwesa who neatly passed the ball beyond the reach of Danny Munyau.

Matthews Njovu ensured maximum points and a first win for Assembly when moments later, his curled free kick deflected off the wall to beat Munyau.

Konkola Blades also mauled Nkwazi 3 – 0 to go joint top on 9 points but behind Power Dynamos on goal difference.

  1. GBFC are just unlucky at the moment cause they have a good coach in Wada Wada coupled with good players like Lottie Phiri, Kangwa Chileshe just to mention a few…

  2. I was very impressed with how Nkwazi players performed today. When they controlled the ball it did not bounce off their shins like you see if most Zambian players. When they chested the ball they did not chest it forward then run after it, they chested it down to their feet. They made nice flat passes. Not the passes you see in the league today where they ball is bouncing. And they passed to the feet of the teammates. Not the usual pass into space hoping your friend is quick enough to get to the ball.
I think Nkwazi have what it takes to survive this season. And I think taking their place on the way back down could be a big team. GBFC comes to mind. Everything Nkwazi did right, they did wrong. Nchanga is another having the same problems as GBFC. Nchanga and GBFC have very poor ball control and no plan for creating chances. This will be a tough season for those who cannot take their football to the next level.

    • Nice analysis Vunga. Who is coaching Nkwazi by the way? He must be focused on improving the players technique.

  3. Arrows n GBFC needs fresh legs. Arrows cnt b relying on kombe to gt th goals. Looking foward to th #ZescoNkana match. Hopfuly t will rain goals.

  4. I watched the Nkana V Zesco match and I think it’s ironic that what Nkana need right now is Festus Mbewe. He is not a prolific goal scorer (we don’t have those in Zambia) but he will get at least ten goals a season and he is a team player. Zesco were looking fatigued. We can excuse them because they have played many more games already this season.
From what I saw I think Nkana are not league contenders but they won’t be anywhere near the relegation zone. They are safe and will probably finish fourth or fifth.
Zesco will be fighting it out with Power Dynamos. And ultimately it will be for teams like Nkana Napsa and Zanaco to be spoilers or king makers.

  5. I watched some of these games on super-sport and i can tell you that the performance of our teams is way below acceptable standards. Most of our coaches need to go for further training, not at our so called FAZ technical center of excellence, but to more serious couch trainers in Europe or Brazil. Our coaches are literally clueless on what to do when a game gets tough. The only positive thing i m seeing is that our players are fast but technically, we are way behind. FAZ and government, please come up with a program to retrain our couches

    • I wanted to say this but ignored. Thanks you have raised this issue. Zambian football has not system. I also watched thanks to SS9.

  6. Hi guys :

Some people have been saying that our league is inferior and this is the reason why our national teams have been performing very badly. Do you agree

  7. It is easy to miss the many faults in our league if you watch it from the TV but after I began going to the stadiums it became clear. Our league is nowhere near the Egyptian, Sudanese nor the South African league.
Our players are missing fundamental techniques like passing, ball control and shooting. It’s not just about hitting the ball, it’s also how you strike the ball, which part of the foot you use to do what, how far your standing Leg is from the ball when you strike it etc.
Non of this is taught to young players in Zambia. Players discover these things on their own.
Our league requires a lot of effort and determination from FAZ and other football administrators before it can begin to compete in Africa.
I think we should focus on improving the league. Put all our effort into making it better on the pitch and in the board room. This off course will require lots of money but a determined FAZ administration can begin saving now and bank on the long term.
If Zambians understand that it will take time but there is a definite plan of action and it has been implemented, then I think everybody will relax a little.
The biggest problem now is that we don’t have faith in FAZ. They seem not to have any plan for the future, they seem disorganised and worst of all they seem to lack leadership.

    • Vunga. Very good to see such constructive input on the state of Zambian football. Awesome and insightful observations brother.

    • I agree with you on the poor state of the league and the poor quality of Zambian players in the league. The league also lacks good quality coaches.

    • @Paradox my thoughts exactly… it’s like you read my mind!… We have 2 very crucial fixtures Zanaco vs Power in Lusaka & Zesco vs GBFC and Zamfoot has just kept quiet…. not a wise thing to do please wake up!!
