Forgotten Mwepu on the right track

For the past 4 months, the World football community has been trying to deal with the fact that a career of one of an emerging midfielder has to be cut short.

The story of Enoch Mwepu’s rise from the small Zambian mining town of Chambishi to the world stage will be told for years.

Until a hereditary heart condition ended his blossoming career, the former Zambian captain performances at English Premier League side Brighton & Albion was earning him rave reviews to some extent that he was being compared with the likes of Paul Pogba and Yaya Toure.

While Enoch has hanged his boots, there’s another boy from the Chambishi who might take the World by storm soon.

Francisco Mwepu, he is Enoch’s young brother.

When Francisco, helped Zambia Under-20 to the Cosafa title in 2019, there was talk of another footballing set of brothers donning the famous Copper jersey.

Would the Mwepu brothers going to be as unsuccessful as the Bwalya brothers (Benjamin, Kalusha and Joel),or the Katongo brothers (Felix and Christopher)

The other footballing brothers to have an impact on the international stage are Chalwe brothers (Linos, Sashi or Songwe) and Malitoli brothers (Kenneth and Mordon).

That comparison won’t be done anymore.

But for Francisco, he has unfinished business as he tries to cage a career for himself.

Francisco spent two seasons at Kafue Celtic until he joined Austrian side Sturm Graz.

He joined Sturm Graz after Red Bull Salzburg turned down the chance to sign him.

The 22 year old’s stay at Sturm Graz was unsuccessful after he picked up a knee injury.

Despite Sturm Graz rehabilitation him, the Austrian refused to extend his contract.

Luckily a Spanish side Cadiz saw talent in a boy who has been compared with the late Nigerian striker Rasheed Yekini.
